Intake.........go to Home Depot and fabricate one yourself

Exhaust............go to local muffler shop and root around in the dumpsters in back for unused pipes

Or go to Pep Boys and buy some APC stickers for 5 bucks......they're always good for about 25-30 extra horses

there really isnt any horsepower you can get for free, but you can do some weight reduction, which will make your car faster.

reduce weight. bye bye everything in trunk, spare tire, jack, amp, subs. Rip out your sound deadening material, and i mean all of it, uncluding the tar thats stuck to the inside of the unibody. you'll gain maybe .1 second in the 1/4.

if you have a 2.4 remove the tuning tube from the plastic resonator on top of your throttle body.

If the weather is dry and air is fairly clean where u live, you might get away with not running an airfilter.

ditch your stock plugs and get regular steel, copper core plugs.

Switch to synthetic oil.

if your driving an automatic, drain 4 qts of fluid out and replace with type f.

bypass your A/C compressor using a smaller belt.

unhook your power steering from end of the intake camshaft and replace with a block-off plate. unhook the power steering lines from the pump and hook them into each other. I actually drive like this, and its not hard to turn the wheel because the fluid in steering system does not have to push past the pump. It does take more effort than with PS, but oh well. I happen to like the resistance, makes driving feel much more involved for me, and it recovers 1-2 hp. probably one of my best, cheapest mods.

this is a newbie question. hence why it got moved here

there is no such thing as free performance. you need to spend some $$$ to get HP

you won't even notice 4-6 horsepower. just wait until you get your turbo so you don't mess anything up.

I was thinking about sticking my "HOMEADE" cold air intake in my car, but its a waste.. lol, let the pros handle that.. for instance, youd be better off buying a Weapon R Dragon Cold air intake, you may feel the difference then.. Personally, I'm buying a K&N intake, THE BEST... for anyone in the hunt for a intake that increases power. Sure, empty your trunk and what not, weight reduction is the way to go.. No such thing as FREE power.. lol
