can't decide
Sunday, March 06, 2005 5:21 PM
hey, wondering if someone can help me make my mind up. i'm not sure if i want to install an alarm or tint my windows next. the alarm gives piece of mind, but the tint slows people down from seeing EXACTLY what I have inside. decisions decisions, and unfortunately right now, both isn't an option

I always say alarm first.

If they can't see what's in the car.. they'll smash the window to find out!

honestly...
think about it, when you hear a car alarm, do you actually look to see whats going on? or just ignore it.
also if someones going to take (or steal) anything from your ride, They will be in-and-out before you realize your alarms going off. AND if your in a spot you can't hear your alarm, do you think someone will do something about someone elses alarm going off?
i dont...

just my thoughts

you've got a point, but at same time i have to disagree also. if someone's breaking into your car, and your alarm goes off, their retarded if don't flee. plus my faceplate is usually locked in the glove box, so i'd hope that by the time they realize the face plate isn't attached, and that the real money is in the trunk and they'll have to drop my back seat to stand a chance at getting at the subs/amp that t

1hey'll be gone. since the last break in we park where the car can be seen if need be.

thanks for opinion though

not sure where you got your car tinted kris, but if you paid 300 i hope they slept with you after!!
tinting in kingston is 160 tx included, lifetime warranty and you pic tint. alarm install 100 bucks, then alarm on top.......maybe a 50 dollar dif max, a viper 300 installed is 225

will the alarm go off if some breaks into the trunk only? on a stock alarm that is.

and do you think the lock on the glove box is going to stop them. I drive a cav so there is no loock on the glove box so I just hide it, thats the only good way cuz they can't efford to look for it to long.

hey, just an update........as i was considering getting a used alarm, i've researched and found out that nobody installs used, unless it's a viper. so i'm leaning towards the window tint...........but please keep suggestions flowing

The alarm systems with the paging systems are nice if you have the cash for them, but to my understanding you're on a tight buget. A lot of times if they dont see what they want, they don't go for it. Thats a plus on the tint. That's not always the scenario, but most thieves are not gonna go into a car not fully knowing what they're going for, which is obviously easy to see, such as a head unit or cd's sitting on the seat, or if you're bumping down the street and they hear your system, they'll obviously gonna know you have a system, and so on. So they CAN do an easy in and easy out when things are easy to see. The other aspect with tint is if you tint too dark, you have the issue with the local authority aka cops. So say you spend the money on tint, get it nice and dark so people can't see in, cops don't like it, then you gotta rip the tint off and maybe pay a fee on top of that which = money wasted. You can't really get in trouble by the cops for an alarm, and it might even lower your car issurance. The thing is though, if someone wants something bad enough, they're gonna take it no matter what kinda security you have, unless you go with something extreme and illegal for a security system.

for sure man, alarm is more an ease of mind feature, not a treatment!
