Custom mendrel bending
Saturday, April 02, 2005 4:23 PM
Hey, I'm putting the wire out to see if I can get any help in locating somebody that does custom mendrel bending...right now i have a 1998 Chevy Cavalier with a Weapon-R Dragon Intake. I'm looking to put an e-Ram Supercharger on it. Here are the dimensions that each of the different types of S/C's that there are to choose from (I am not looking to replace my Weapon-R filter with a K&N!):

http://www.electricsupercharger.com/dimensions.shtml

I live in Durham Region, Ontario, Canada. So if I can find somebody local that can do it for me, that would be best.

Thanks in advance!

OH really? Did ANY of you even take the time to read what the e-Ram actually does? Let alone view the videos of what they different is between a leaf-blower and their e-Supercharger? Here, I'll even give you the direct links to where you can find that information.

Dude

That is all on their site. Of course they are gonna promote it.

You don't want to listen to us? Fine

But don't come back whining when you get ripped off and wasted your money

IF IT WAS THAT EASY EVERYONE WOULD BE DOING IT!

Buy a real damn turbocharger or supercharger

Re: Custom mendrel bending

Agreed!!! Read up do a search trust us you will find nothing good out of this little gimmick. Where is the fuel managment? When you increase air flow you have to increase fuel right? But then why dont they sell any thin else with it. DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE!!!!! Remember what mommy always told you.
Re: Custom mendrel bending

So what you guys are saying is that the aftermarket air intakes you guys probably have on your cars actually do absolutely nothing. Because there isn't any form of fuel management that comes with the assembly. However, I beg to differ they don't do anything, because there is a HUGE difference whenever I replace my filter every spring. I did do some research into it. Every E-S/C manufacturer that I've seen advertise their assembly as being able to flow usually around 200-250cfm. When Weapon-R claims their Dragon Filter alone flows 288cfm and the sound of the vacuum is quite audible when accelerating and after shut-off. E-Ram claims their supercharger tries to force ~1000cfm through the pipe, as well as increase the air pressure in the tube which DOES create BOOST and the thing draws 55-60 amps when it kicks in, read the Technical Overview. Not EVERY company is out to fool the consumer into spending $$$. Especially if that seems to be a trend, the next company would actually try to make something that is the real-deal and use that in their marketing. So, unless you guys know somebody that bought this particular product and proved that it does nothing, then you really don't have any right to bash what I'm trying to do. So why don't you just answer my ORIGINAL question about where I can find somebody to do some custom mendrel bending instead of trying to make me think you're the sh*t just because you follow what everybody else does, and you refuse to try to do anything new.

You know what, go ahead and go to an exhaust shop to get your piping made theyll do it for you, but like LowFire said dont come back on the site saying to us "DONT BUY FROM E-SC THERE A RIP OFF " My car runs like complete @!#$!!!! We are all glad that you are trying something new but we know what we know. Trying a new set of cams or a new turbo would be understandable. Whatever floats your boat as long as it dont sink my ship. Have fun wasting money. We are not flaming you just informing you.

you mean people still fall for this CRAP?

your engine is basicly an air pump and unless you got one hell of a heavy duty motor that ain't gonan do anythign but BLOCK air intake.

thanks for the laugh though i needed that.

Re: Custom mendrel bending

I agree with everone above^^^^

But to answer most shops around you will do a manrel bed but not necessaly 1 piece. cause a mandrel bender can be cosly most places will order the mandrel bends and weld them togther for you car.....just call around different shops.....but trusm me, if you not williing to spend the money on an actual supercharger then you are probably not going to wanna pay for custom mandrel bend piping.

and people wonder why hodas last longer and we are considered ricer wannabies cuz they dont do stupid @!#$......if you cant efford to mod your car properly then why do it at all, your just making j-bodies look bad.

Here think about this. How is your air FLow when the thing is not running, remind you that it is an obstacles in your intake. so your car will get crappy power and gas mileage when it is not running, and then when it is running pulling 55-60 amps , it is going to crap out your alternator, or drop a cell in your battery.

There are SO many more factors that your not thinking about also.

When you go to a shop to get an estimate on the mendrel piping ask them about the e-ram s/c and see what they have to say about it.

How much power do you "THINK" you will get from this.....?

just wondering how disapointed you are going to be.

what a @!#$tard! 600 bucks for 1.0 psi of boost,,,, WHOOPTY DUE!!!!!!! and that is even if it can do what they say! but hey, if you want to waste the money, when you could put 600 bucks into getting a realistic 25 hp or more if ya get juice, more power to ya!

Re: Custom mendrel bending

All it is, is a fan in a tube. You can push as much air at the engine as you want, but until you start compressing it (which the E-Ram doesn't do), you aren't going to make a lick of power. There is only one true electric supercharger. Takes a bank of like 6 car batteries, has 4 electric motors, and lasts a whopping 18 seconds before you need to recharge the batteries. The wieght alone from the batteries is enough to drag the car down, probably can't even get through the whole 1/4 mile in 18 seconds with all that weight.

And if you did indeed pay $600 for that, I would invite you to go to your local boating supply store and ask to see a "bilge room fan". They will bring you out something that looks surprisingly similar to the E-Ram (and similar air flow numbers, air flow, not compression), and costs about $40.

if you actually buy that thing, i hope you shoot yourself when you realize how stupid you are

On the contrary, I probably do more research on things I want to do to my car, than most of you have. I did 6 months of research into the stereo I put in it, I spent at least 1-2 months looking for the intake I ended up putting on it (Weapon-R Dragon Intake), I searched through almost every aftermarket spark plug wire manufacturer before I found the set I wanted (Nology HotWires) and likewise for the spark plugs (Nology Silverstone). I even checked up on Nology's claim that Silver is the most electrically conductive metal on the periodic table, and it is, and in the process I found out that Iridium, Platinum and Gold are a helluva lot worse than Copper which is second to Silver. My car stereo pulls a lot more than 55-60 amps when it's running at full volume, which I hardly ever do. I usually just run it as loud as I want it, and the stereo itself is 800W but because, with the exception of the subwoofers, it is 2-channel it draws the equivalent of 1300W from the battery.

Once again, did you even read the information on the website? Or even what I wrote before this post? It DOES compress the air, granted not much, but it does increase the pressure in the air tube by ~1 or ~1.7psi (depending which version it is). Not to mention they even have photos of the readings they took when they tested it. I'm NOT expecting much of an increase of power, and I may not even put this thing on my car. That's what the point of finding somebody who would build/bend me a custom intake that would fit this thing inline with it, and getting a quote. You guys are just making this into something it isn't. I didn't ask for your opinion AT ALL about what you thought about me putting this thing on my car, because it's MY car, not YOURS. All I asked for was somewhere "local" that does custom mendrel bending or something that would still get me what I'm looking for (a custom intake). If I cared at all about what you guys think about my car, I'd be a much more regular visitor to this site.

Ok, lets pretend this works.

1.7 psi, average of 10hp per psi (thats outrageously generous), you just spent $600 to gain 18hp?
