Need some help here. I've been running Koni shocks with the Tein springs for auto-x. I think its time I take the next step and get ground control coilovers. I'm wondering what eveybody is running out there for the springs front and rear rates. Any help would be appreciated. Even anybody with roadrace rates would help as well. Thank You...
Wow, lots of help for you on this one. heh
Anyways, rates can be different for people if their style of driving is different and they want the car to do different things than you do.
Are you just looking for a base rate for G/C springs?
Lightweight honDuhs can kiss my fat Crapalier a$$
A new autoX ride for '08.....
How long have you been autocrossing? Will you be able to compete in the class you'll end up in when you put the GC's on?
Wow, the post is alive.... Yeah, I've been doing it for awhile (since 2002) Tried nationals once. I'm in a dilemma over semi-comfort over full race rates. The car was bought with the intentions of becoming a full race car eventually and I'm still working towards that, possibly (why? I have no idea, glutton for punishment). I started in GS and plan to keep moving up in classes through time. STS is where I am now and plan on staying there till I max the mods in the class or my clutch goes out.
Ideally I would like to find the calculations for finding the HZ of the suspension so that I could figure out the spring rates. I guess at this point I would rather try for the ideal setup over comfort. I could always go back. I'm in the AZ region there is quite a few national competitors and they really know how to setup their cars. It helps me with knowing where I stand with the great drivers with there equally great setup cars.
Basically any help would be appreciated, I know I want coil-overs so that I can lower the COG a little more and I really want the spring rates bumped up to keep from overloading the tires. Since I started the thread I did do a search and found that the gc's are a probably a good starting point. Correct me if I'm wrong but the gc's rates are around 3x stiffer? If not, I want rates that would be....
If you want to go the coil-over route, have you thought about the Tein SS set? They have camber plates built into the top mount so you can play with your camber alignment a little easier. You loose some adjustibility with spring rates, but Iamrascal and Event both seemed pleased with them on the track.
I wouldn't lower the car much past 1.5" from stock. Reason being, the A-arms will start pointing upwards instead of being parallel with the ground. The car will handle best (in my opinion) with the A-arms parallel to the ground.
I would also try to get the car corner weighted if (or when) you do get coil overs.
Haven't looked at the Tein ss yet. I'll check it out when I get home. I know about the a-arm condition and I'm thinking of either some work arounds or some testing for sure on the possible plus or neg. of going over the 1.5" mark just for events (I already know about wheel bearings)... I have had the car corner weighted a few years and alot of mods ago, it will be the second thing I do after the Alignment.... thanks for the input.
