What do you use for wax and quick detailers?

I know I could have searched because I am sure this comes up often. However since I am one of those guys that is always trying something new my opinion of products is always changing. So I thought your opinions may have changed since the last time this came up.

As far as waxes go I have tried the turtle wax paste and never been a fan. The paste are just to time consuming to apply and remove. So I started using the liquids only.

I have tried the turtle wax but still was not all that impressed. I have used the black magic, fire engine shine, and this carnuba stuff they sell at trade shows and swap meets. The others are ok but this carnuba stuff is almost twice the price although I like it the best of those.

I have tried the regular meguiars one step wax and the three step system. I did my entire car with the three step one by hand once. I am never doing that again. I think that took me about 12 hours total. I liked it but it just did not seem worth the time. However it is still what I use on my crotch rocket and any motorcycle I wax.

My most recent thing I tried was the ICE claybar and liquid wax. The liquid claybar is kind of a PITA and whatever you do do not let it dry on your car. You have to rinse it of immediately. So you do one body panel and then rinse and then dry it so there are no water spots and that gets kind of time consuming. The ICE wax went on and off easy. I kind of worry about how long it will last since it is about as thin as water. My main appeal to it was you do not have to worry about cleaning white crud out of every crevice and that was nice.

As for quick detailers I have tried the black magic brand and I never liked it. I have tried the meguiars and it's OK. I made a post in the exterior section about the Lucas brand since I liked it so much. Here is a link to that post.

I think right now Lucas slick mist is still my favorite. I am currently using the ICE quick detailer and I would say it is just slightly better than the meguiars as far as shine but not as good as the lucas. Don't get me wrong. All three are still very good in my opinion.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on the ones I have mentioned and others.

For quick detailer I use Mother's, it came with my clay bar, and I have some Meguiar's too. I'm not a huge fan of QD unless I'm using the clay bar. They have both seemed to be the same for me.

As far as wax goes, I've always been a fan of Meguiar's cleaner wax, because it cleans and shines in one step. But lately I have been using Meguiar's #26 Professional Yellow Wax, and it is absolutely awesome. For my car never having been polished or paint corrected, it makes it look new. Really nice and deep, wet shine.

I can usually wax my car quick in about 25 minutes, it doesn't take much of the yellow wax to shine it up nice. If I have some extra time, I will throw down a light coat of Mother's Reflections polish to clean the paint a little bit more before the wax.

I like liquid ice, it is perfect for waxing in direct sunlight. And it makes the black POP out.

Image is old yes... but I always use Eagle One's Nanowax for a quick job. I really love the mirror shine it brings the black to. It also fills in minor surface scratches, which is a plus.

i used to use the eagle one nano wax. then i switched to the meguiars gold class, short of the 12 step zaino, its the best shine ive had on my car. for quick detail i use meguiars or eagle one wet if i can find it. id say when i clean mine i spend a good 6 hrs of cleaning if i go and clay bar it too. then it takes a while. i used the ice spray, not impressed. i never have been a fan of turtle wax. i always use the applicator pads and a micro fiber cloth to take it off. works fine for me.

whenever i do my baby, or any of my families cars...

meguiars pro series #00 hyper wash
meguiars pro series #6 cleaner wax
meguiars pro series #26 high tech yellow wax
or Meguiars Nxt Gen. 2.0 tech wax.
easy as cake to put on and off, and looks AMAZING. ill post pics of some jobs if you want to see them.

and for quick detailer, i use the meguiars red bottle, or i have really gotten into the ultimate quick detailer now. it makes the #26 feel even more glassy and adds some decent depth... i deal with mainly red and maroon cars though.

I used to use the over the counter waxes and detailers and alot of them are really good. but if you are lookin for that show car shine then i would reccomend looking into alot of companys that sell online. chemical brothers products are really good, but for the last two years or so i have been using tropi-care products. I have a thread if you search my name that shows the results you can get from it. check it out if you get a chance.

Id suggest to stick with megs.. I think they are the best. It takes awhile but.. ehh.. its up to you. You dont have to claybar/polish the car every time you wax, you can just wash/wax then when its time to claybar.. long day! lol.

The part I hate the most is drying the car.. lol.

Meguiars NXT Gen Tech Wax 2.0 is amazing stuff. Easy on and easy off with great shine and protection. For QD I am using Meguiars as well now since it came with the clay bar.

I use a claybar about once every month or 2, the last wac I used was the new Meguires Tech Wax 2.0, it shines the car up amazingly. Only takes me about 2 hours to claybar/wax the car.

To add in a question to this post.

How often do you wax?
and
How often do you claybar?

A guy posted this on another forum I frequent and though some of you guys might want to see it if you haven't already. Its originally from the S2000 forums and uses S200 as examples, but can be applied to any car.

i use meguiar's. course it doesnt hurt that their sponsoring me. but even before then i used most of their products. as far as how often and when to wax/claybar. run your fingers over yoru car after you wash it, if it still feels gritty or bumpy clay bar it, i generally will only wax the car about twice a year. course its not a daily driver either so it stays pretty clean.

My car is a daily driver so I wash it once a week, wax it once a month and clay bar it twice a year; once in the spring and once in the fall.

For wax, I use Nu Finish Scratch Doctor followed by Mother's California Gold liquid Caranuba wax. Scratch Doctor is pricey (almost $9.00 for a small tube) but it works great. It removes tree sap, bugs, tar, oxidation, surface scratches, etc. A lot of waxes claim to remove surface scratches, but this one actually does. It's absolutely amazing. I used to use the Mother's 3 Step Wax System but with the Scratch Doctor you eliminate the need for the first 2 steps. The Mother's Caranuba wax does an amazing job of making my silver paint look like a mirror while also providing great protection.

I don't really use quick detailer too often, but when I do I use Mother's Showtime Instant Detailer. It has a great smell and works great at removing bugs, etc. quickly for shows and/or pictures.
