Paint Issues...
Sunday, May 25, 2008 9:23 AM
I had gotten into a fender bender a few months ago, so I needed my front and rear bumpers painted. Turned out good until i noticed it looking pretty nasty today. It is hazy on some parts and has small circles everywhere on the bumpers. What went wrong, or what can i do. I have waxed the car two times this year, not seeming to help any. I will post pictures by tonight, once i get my car out.

It is a hazy fog, with small circles on the paint.....

alright, got the pics sooner than I expected. Sorry about the quality, but you can still see the issue. I used photobucket to edit them to size. Like I said, it has small dots, circles everywhere on front and rears.

there ya are. Please help me out, Is it just a bad prep job, paint, or anything that can be fixed?

Looks like what happens when you dont clean the wax and/or grease from the car before you paint. Seems to be a poor prep job.

yep looks like poor prep work. i would take it back to the shop that painted it. and if you did it yourself then not much you can do except redo it. atleast nothing that i know of. if you feel real frisky you could try a claybar. cause it might just be something that can be cleaned up and not poor prep work. but mi no paint expert.

If it was fine when it got done then you probably waxed it to early if you waxed it within 3 months of it getting done then the silicone in the wax reacted with the paint, if it was poor prep it would have reacted immediately upon application of base coat

well it is one of our good family friends. i'd feel bad bringing it back to him, but like i said, and talked to my dad, it is just a cavalier and my first car, don't worry about it now. It looks great for it's age, i'm proud of it, but it is just my first car.

I will try a clay bar or cleaner wax to see what it does, hopefully something!

It COULD be poor prep work, but the spots don't look pitted, fish eyes usually pit... maybe I'm not focused enough (I just woke up so i'm still kinda groggy)

I'd try the claybar and wax first, if the spots are still there it's gotta be the prepwork.
