GM Performance Parts Delivers Ecotec Supercharged Excitement
DETROIT - GM Performance Parts continues to build on the Ecotec four-cylinder family’s performance portfolio with the announcement of a supercharger kit designed for 2003 and newer models of the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire. In addition, GM Performance Parts announced that the Ecotec supercharged crate engine, which was unveiled late last year, is now ready to order and expected to be available on June 2.
New Ecotec 2.2L Supercharger Kit for Cavalier, Sunfire
The GM Performance Parts 2.2L supercharger kit is based on the
Eaton M62 helical roots-type supercharger. Early estimates show
the supercharger kit will deliver an 11-pound boost resulting
in 175 horsepower at 5600 rpm – a 25 percent increase.
The kit will include supercharger assembly, intake manifold, all required gaskets, accessory drive brackets, tensioner, belt and new high-flow injectors. It will also include a throttle body adapter new inlet air duct, new cruise control cable and all of the fasteners required to assemble it to the engine. The kit is planned to be emissions certified and include a calibration to be downloaded by the dealer after installation
The GM Performance Parts 2.2L supercharger kit, expected to be
available at the end of this year, will be offered as either a
hard parts kit with no calibration or harness, or a platform-based
street kit that will have both a calibration and harness. Both
will be factory engineered and extensively tested to rigorous
GM standards for performance and durability. Because the unit
isn’t offered as a factory option, you’ll have to
get yours through your local dealership.
Ecotec supercharged crate engine now available
First announced at the SEMA show last fall, the Ecotec supercharged
2.0-liter crate engine for 2004 delivers an impressive 205 horsepower
at 5600 rpm and 200 lb.-ft. torque at 4400 rpm.
At the heart of this powerful engine is an Eaton M62 helical roots-type
supercharger. GM engineers chose the Eaton unit because of its
optimum response characteristics and ease of “packaging”
with the Ecotec architecture. With a maximum boost of 12 pounds
and an air to water intercooler, this unit delivers enhanced power
and reduces a supercharged engine’s propensity to “knock”
at high boost levels.
Consumers can purchase the GM Performance Parts Ecotec supercharged
2.0-liter crate engine from any GM dealership using part number
12499466. To locate the closest dealer, call 1-800-GM USE US or
