Ok folks, i'm looking at a 1988 Cavalier, 4 cylinder, 5 speed. My reason for buying the car is mainly for fuel mileage and the car is cheap. $500, needs a few things, don't remember exactly what, body, floors, everything mint, virtually no rust, and 77,000km on the body with original motor. I know it needs sway bar bushings and a wheel bearing.
What are some prone issues on the 2nd gens? I had a '02 for 3 years before i bought my jeep.

Rust, like in spades. Fortunately the one your looking at appears to be in decent shape. Otherwise I'm partial to 2nd gens myself. Got a '94 that runs like a top.
I took a look at it and found some things that buddy failed to tell me... it's worth what he's asking but it's more than i'd like to get into.
