Those meats look beastly hanging out of the fender. Very nice.
Well.... its been way too long since I have posted any updates with the Sunflower, but I haven't given up or stopped working on it!!!! There have been numerous changes and additions to my plans due to trial and error, or my neverending quest for more power
Starting off a monumental occasion happened on April 15 of this year..... Its been exactly 10 years since i bought my Sunflower brand new. From 53 miles to slightly over 40,000, hundreds if not thousands of hours of labor, DEFINITLEY thousands of dollars worth of parts and labor, I've been pissed, burnt, burnt out, cussed, cursed, ecstatic, upset, impressed, and everything in between. Yet my Sunflower is still my labor of love. I still am excited to try new things with it, whether they work out or not, and as always, I will never stop or give up on my project.
Yes, its 10 years old, and still looks damn good.
I ordered an M-Tech shift lever for my transmission recently, and I'll be installing it along with my new LSD and clutch setup here shortly.
I finally got around to getting it tuned on E85 as well...
...and im sorry to say that I didn't make my 400 horsepower mark. I completely blew it out of the water!!!!!
505 Horsepower and 417 torque at 26 psi boost!!!! The dyno graphs from my old setup to new are posted side by side. HP and TQ curves are almost identical, but where I pretty much leveled off before, with the new setup and tune, the power just keeps climbing!!!! Unfortunately I maxed out my fuel setup, so a 450 LPH fuel pump and some larger injectors will be added to my list shortly. BTW, my tuner has full confidence that with the proper fuel upgraded I could comfortably see 550 HP to the wheels.
Also i have outstripped the capacity of any single disc clutch setup made for the Sunflower, so I am currently working on getting a Clutchmasters multi plate disc setup to throw in along with the LSD and shift lever.
No pix yet, but I did a couple of small changes to the interior of the car, and ordered some goodies for racing this season.
New setup, new tires, and over 150 MORE horsepower than before.... to hell with 11's, I'm going for 10's!!!!
Let's go racing!

Mike, great to hear man. Good Job. How consistent has the E85 been?

I just read through the whole thread to put the cake under the icing - damn fine job!
Crazy good numbers - what a fantastic build and progress made. The car looks and performs outstanding.
Congrats!
Still looks quitegood too!

Thanks for all of the comments! As far as my ethanol meter, it didn't factor into my tuning. Its more of a tool to make sure i dont get a bad batch of ethanol. My concentration is right around 80-84% every tank.

I never really saw any fluctuations (outside of those caused by cold air and manual boost controller) in lambda at any time of year. (The colder air and the pcm can adjust enough to get to 1 when it's not in PE, and in PE my afr was right on once I adjusted the boost controller back. Mbc ftl, it would go from 35 to 40+ psi in cold air lol)
When its not 85% you can smell it after you're used to what 85% smells like when burned.
Nice numbers. I'd like to see how far e85 can go on an Ecotec. How much timing are you running with this tune?

This is one bad ass ride. Congrats on getting over 500 Hp!!
2002 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 EFI Auto
Transmission currently apart for full LSD install, and Clutchmasters twin disc setup is on its way. Also, since the fuel system was maxed out before, I upgraded to a 450 LPH fuel pump and 1450cc injectors. Also modified the fuel rail and put new stainless steel braided teflon fuel lines in, from front to rear. And a Fuelab adjustable fuel pressure regulator was added too.

Pix of the new fuel system. Of course everything still has my trademark hard bent vacuum lines.

Bye bye old junk! And a pic of the modified fuel rail. Everything has AN fittings from front to rear.

nice!!
do you have the room for the 90 to the upper rad hose?
following as I am thinking of going the same route...
Looking good. So does this mean you will be going for more power?
FU Tuning
Hoping to get retuned by the end of july, depending on when i get the twin disc installed.
Jason, im not sure what you mean by a 90?

where you have your 90 in the end of the fuel rail facing where the coolant res used to be.....
do you have room by the time your radiator hose is on to clear it?
Well, finally rid of the Junk-since-new KY Clutch! Thanks to the generosity of Vince, I now have a low-mileage Clutchmasters Twin Disc setup in the Sunflower!!! Along with the Twin Disc, I'm installing a full LSD to replace the TG LSD insert.
