when I was looking around for J-body I saw a header for 600.00. @!#$ ridiculous for the 5 horses it MIGHT bring on a stock J.
If you need a header, let me know if your interested. Also, what motor do you have?

After you do your install you need to get some timeslips, pics, and possibily a movie of it going down the track and send it to Dave@converter.cc. He could get you on the customer website.
will do i usually at least take pics going down the track and keep the slips but if all goes well this next time out there itll be well worth taking video

Davide---- just wondering if this sounds about right to you on removing the tranny:
mount -- 8 bolts
subframe -- 12 bolts (including sway bar and ball joints)
bell housing to block -- 7 bolts (including the one that holds the starter)
and 3 on the converter
was looking and honestly looks like theres room to leave the harnesses and coller lines attached as long as they are watched and not lower the tranny TOO far. i'll also be removing the tranny mount completely to give a little more room to move side to side and probably be making it a solid mount

I just bought one of the Yank converters off ebay.. Guy is nice to work w/ so far.... Hopefully w/ the combination of the converter, 3in rear exhaust and 225/50/15 BFG Drag radials w/ 10.5lb Trak Lite wheels I can get this car to go from a 13.8 to the 13.5-13.3 region. My 60ft averages 2.12-2.2, so with these mods I hope to cut consistant 1.9 60 foot times. Guess I will have to wait and see.

I can't remember the exact number of bolts but that sounds like it is in the vicinity. You will actually hate yourself during the install, but, after that you will see that the end justifies the mean! The converter swap is more difficult than rear wheel drive.

I don't know about those numbers, but I would certainly bet that the axles or tranny would go before the converter.

sweet. I might buy from them now. I'm going to do mine after you so make sure you tell me how it feels.
I'll have mine in this Saturday... I'll post a review after I go to the track the following Tuesday...
By the way, I bought mine Saturday and the guy shipped it out today, I will have it wednesday. Very nice guy to buy from. Make sure if you want to buy one, you do it before he sells out. Otherwise, you will have to shell out nearly twice as much to have one made..

Does anyone know what the rating on the stock axles is? I've never heard of anyone breaking them.

My tech had something come up.. so I will not have my converter on till 25th...
As far as the axles go... I am still using the 2.2OHV axles with my 2.4L ans they are doing fine.... I would feel safe with them up to 275WHP....

seems like it would be a nice addition to my grand am, im not very familiar with transmission work. does anyone know around about how much it would cost for a shop to put er in there?
well i almost got it done today i should have a few pictures tommorrow.
i will say its nothing hard but it takes some time and its a heck of a job haha. for the most part i did it myself but when it came to lowering the tranny and putting it back into place i need a few other hands haha. i dropped the whole subframe, left the axles in place, took out the tranny mount completely for more room to move around, and only had to undo the coller lines everything thing else like harnesses and shift cable i left and had no issues with them.
anyways just htought id give an update and i will get the pictures on here tommorrow

@!#$in sweet! I need to buy mine.
So far what was the most difficult part to do? And how many hours did you put in today?
For a shop install I would say $400. I mean, you can do it yourself it just takes time and patience.
I thought that you would have to remove the cooler lines. You have to do the tranny cooler anways. Barely got away with it with the tranny on the stand. I got the axles off too. Just more out of the way. Really, I guess the subframe isnt that bad. Did technically use stands for everything.

yes i did use stands to support the engine and all and i wont be able to install a cooler right away but ill be taking it easy until i find out the actual temp and all.
i will try it out launching once or twice though so i can give some feedback
pics will be after i get home and out of class about 430 or so
04 sunfire auto, mid 15's n/a, and still going
ok im posting the pics right now in the photos and media forum but give me a bit to finish hahaha
as far as what your getting into theres:
9 bolts holding the tranny to the engine
9 holding the subframe in place, 2 of those support the steering rack which needs to be tied up during the process
the lower strut mount bolts(4 total), hub nuts(2), and tie rod nuts on each side
remove the starter; 2 bolts; and then 3 converter bolts
8 bolts to remove the tranny mount
keep these all orginized and note where they go it helps. when installing the new converter you will have to play with it a little to get it all to line up it will be like 3 steps you will feel, when it kinda clunks into place your good. have tranny fluid ready just in case. my converter came with fluid in it already and was enough to keep it full. just let the vehicle get to operating temp run it through the gears, get the fluid flowing and then shut it off raise it up and check the level.
my opinion of how it works now: not sure of definite gains but i can feel the torque steer a bit more now, in drive and idling the lope is more present, MY stall speed is about 2850 or so, to really utilize launching at that speed be sure your brakes work well, i really have to press the pedal down to hold it. over all i feel its very worth it all and cant wait to see the results on race day
