Mine is a "Cobra 360 degree laser scanner". 10 different bands. It picks up cops from quite a nice distance

theres no point around here everythings blasted photo radar and i ever see any city cops radaring peps because they let the photo radars do that for them, lazy winnipeg cops bleh...rcmp on the other hand lol they pull me over all the time because i removed the lights that lites up my license plate, mostly they just asking to make sure its my car.
Re: Radar Detector
Monday, February 06, 2006 10:41 AM
Technically you could buy a spray that coats your plate that makes the signal/light blast back at the camera making the photo radar useless as well, lol
Re: Radar Detector
Monday, February 06, 2006 10:54 AM
why would you want to remove the plate lights, if you putthem back in, that should stop the pulling over, shouldn't it?

Everyone drives SO slow in Winnipeg. It's brutal! There are quite afew cops with radar, usually on the perimeter, bishop, portage too. I'm going to get one soon.

Do radar detectors find photo radar spots? ie: vans parked with them, or the red light cameras?

Mr.64 (Shaune Drake) wrote:^^how did you mount it to the top of the rearview mirror. what did you use to make it stick?

I took a piece of L-shaped plastic, and plastic-welded it to the mirror (used black zip-ties and a soldering iron) to make a platform for the radar detector to sit on. I smoothed it all out and then painted it so it looked decent. Then I used velcro to hold the unit in place and it can be removed if I want to.

if they can tell, by pacing you in most states thats enough of a legal measure of your speed.

Radar detectors (if you have a good one), will pick up damn near anything. Hand held radar, computer photo radar, laser, etc.
Re: Radar Detector

Here's why I quit speeding and part of the reason I haven't fixed my Laser:

Montana State Trooper: "Where's the fire, son?"
Me: (confused look of **where the hell didyou come from** on my face)
Trooper: "I take it you didn't see me."
Me: "No, sir I didn't"
Officer: "You know why I stopped you, right?"
Me: "I have a pretty good idea."
Officer: "When I clocked you coming up the on ramp you were doing a little over 80. I gave you the benefit of the doubt, figured you'd see me and slow down, but no. Instead you took off like a bat out of hell. I was doing 130 when I finally got behind you, and you were still pulling away. I don't know what's under the hood, and I don't care. I don't know how they do things in Iowa but around here people go to jail for a stunt like that."

I didn't like spending the night in a jail in Montana. And I dind't like getting my car out of impound. And losing my license.

You were going over 80, and made a cop go 130 just to catch you, and you say thats why you don't speed?? lol, well obviously if you were going a reasonable speed he would've been as mad.

lol wow that cops a dumb ass ... do the math!! if he was going 130 and he said you were pulling away at 80? This mean the cop cant tell see the speed-o worth a damn, or he was bull @!#$ting you dude!! lol I want to see what that looks like, the cop going 130, you going 80, you going 50 mph slower still pulling away!!

Re: Radar Detector

First, let me say what I did was really, really, retarded. And in no way do I support people doing this sort of thing on public roads. What I did was wrong, and I sort of feel like a hipocryt because just the other day I flamed someone for wanting to remove the governor from his Cavalier. Anyway...

No. He definitely wasn't bullsh*tting me. I got on to the highway and nailed it. I had no idea he was behind me. I saw a black car in the rear view, no lights on top, and figured I was already flying so if he hadn't lit me up already he probably wasn't a cop. When I finally saw his lights in my mirror I looked at my speedo and I was doing about 125ish. Gotta think, I was in my Laser. And it's nowhere near stock. I was on this road in the middle of nowhere, nice and straight, no traffic around, and I was running behind on time, so I figured what the hell, I'll make up some time and have a little fun. If he hadn't nailed me who knows what kind of dumb sh*t I would have done. That car would easily do 160 if I wanted it to, I have no doubts about that.

Re: Radar Detector

Well Rawk it would make sense that the cop had to do 130 to catch him. If the cop was behind and maintaining 80 or so, and he sees a car already going 125mph thats pretty far up ahead, obviously he is going to have to kick it up and go faster then 125 to catch up. So there was no bulls*itting going on with that.

I had kinda the same thing happen to me . . . I jumped on I-294 and nailed it in my 93 LeSabre. I looked behind me and noticed Impala headlights comin up quick and I look at the speedo and say "I'm f*cked". The cop stays behind me for like a sec, and blows around me! No lights on, no nothing, lol. I look down and my speedo is at 82mph, and the cop just completely ignored me, lol. The moral, it all depends on the cop and what your doing I guess? Maybe he saw your modded Laser and thought what the hell and ran for it?
Re: Radar Detector
Monday, February 06, 2006 5:28 PM
My guess is he saw a dumb sh*t in a modded Laser doing nearly double the posted speed limit and figured he should find out why. I mean, seriously, the on ramp speeds are what, 45? I was doing 80. And as far as the highway, speed limit is what, 55? 65? Let's do the math. 125 - 65 is 60. I was doing 60mph over the speed limit. In retrospect, I'd have pulled me over too.

^^^ My cobra has also payed for itself time after time. I even dig the warning you get for emergency vehicles and such, actually saved me from getting t-boned by a maniac ambulance driver last summer in Detroit.
