I think the newer kits are a lot better than the old ones were.
I've seen some of the older ones that really seemed like hack jobs. I've also seen a DIY one that looked completely retarded, having the fenders all bent out of shape to allow clearance. Some of the ones I've seen looked like they were a huge hassle to operate and often didn't line up properly before closing.
If I saw someone having to wrestle with their door to get it to open or close then I'd chuckle and wonder why they bothered. On the other hand, if I see one that opens out and up flawlessly and closes the same, that impresses me.
This is one of those mods that has to be done right or not at all. If it ends up being a hassle to use, what's the point? It's only cool if it's an actual improvement to the car rather than a hindrance!
ANYONE could come up with a hing to make the door open up like that if they didn't care how well it worked. But if it's a PITA to lift the door up, the struts don't hold it properly, etc. etc. then you should expect people to laugh when they see it.
On the other hand, if it opens nicely without extra effort and closes the same, and gives to more room to get into and out of the car, how can you argue with that? It's a very cool feature!

A LOT of bracing would be needed. Think about the weight of the Cavy door on that 2 inch strip of metal on the top...I mean if the door was super lightened, no power anythings, no speakers....and you reinforced the top and sides excellent, and the roof of the car to support it, and make a custom mount for the shock......hmmmmm you know......
Maybe I'll try it on my old 90 and see if I can make it work....nah, if I'm gonna screw up something, I'll do it big! lol <br>

I love my lambos, and I love the fact that I can open the door both ways. When I'm out though, for the most part I do open them up. Whether you love them or hate them, they're still a head turner. I don't know about you guys, but I get a kick out of it when I'm in a parking lot with the doors up, and cars actually circle back around to look at them. <br>

yeah you are right man. i am super jealous i can't have lambo doors on a car that i own. i bet they would be phat on my jeep. umm probably not dude, im not jealous in any way at all. i knew people would make retarded remarks to a simple post made to stir some attention. maybe i should get a carbon fiber lambo door kit and a carbon fiber door handle. wait i can't have those, i must be jealous!!!
