I'm willing to help out noobs or other members find things and all but, It pisses me off when someone tells someone else to search. Why you ask? Because the search feature is lacking. Words to search for have to be pretty exact or else you come up empty handed. Anyone else notice this? Of course the google search bar can also be used but you'll have to skim through the other results.
You get used to working with the search button and thinking of different words to find what you want. But yes, I hate when people just type "search" as well.

i do agree that you need to be pretty specific when you are searching for something. i was trying to find the picture of the c/f headlight that a.jones made last night. searched him as a member, threads, spent about 7 minutes searching and still came up empty handed. but when people say "search", they are usually in the right. in half of the cases ive seen, the topic was just discussed and locked on the same page, or the next page. it would also help if people named their threads appropriately. but thats my opinion.

ive been pretty general when it comes to searches and i end up finding what i need to most of the time
use the dam search button
its a 100 times better than other sites ive ben on
I usually tell people to search and when they cant find it, i do the search and link them too 100+ hits.
Its not hard. just put all dates, all forums.
if you can't find something by searching subject lines (because way too many people put piss poor subjects), try searching message bodies for key words you think might be used.
searching is pretty easy. ive been able to find everything i needed searching.

On the other hand I had the same thing happen to me as IZN TRBL, I was looking for a member name and couldn't find him even though I knew his name. As it turns out only the members' original registered name can be found through the member search and not the name that they use in the forums now if they changed it.(if that makes sense)

that's what's great about this forum. you can search for their real name (if they have it in their registry like they are supposed to), their username or any author name they've used.
95vet has a point... maybe im just an idiot but how do you search through their author name. i just tried to do a search for him and nothing came up in the members section.
Check out my build thread!
in each forum's search page (same place as you would search for threads by subject or message body). there's two check marks for finding posts by either username or author name.
okay i know that part but me and him were talking about the members search not having an author name search function.

Yesterday I did a member search for "lone_wolf" That's the name that shows up when he posts. I typed it in and nothing. Like Cannon Fodder said it will work if you go into a forum and search under author but it won't under member search.
For member search you have to type in the original name that was used to register on the site. That's what really grinds my gears.
here is the best suggestion
dave needs to add a search fourm , for those to lazy , or have problems with
ya its not the easiest but you just have to learn how to search.
There is a skill needed to search

Exactly! I almost never have trouble finding what I'm looking for, but thats
probably because I've learned how to use the search. Its also easier when
you are looking for an old post that youve already seen and remember how
the subject was worded or who started the thread.

that's because member search isn't for finding author names. you can only use member search to find either their real name (if they have it listed like they are supposed to) or their username (login name). the forums is where you search for what author name they use when they post.
Just tried using "author search for Spotabee Racing" in other cars and "No search results"
not trying to be a dick but if you searched all forums then you could have double checked
