hey everyone, im lookin at 2 cavys here in my home town. one is a 2003 ls sport, black, sunroof, 51000 miles for 8900. the other is a 2005 ls, orange, 14000 miles, gm certified for 9900. their prices seem sorta steep to me. the 2003 is in pretty good shape with some flaws, scuffs and chips, in the paint. the 2005 is mint. its at a dealer so i know i can talk them down. i bought my fire i have now from there and they came down 1800 on it and it was only on the lot for a week. any opinions?
sad thing, i looked them up and kbb is close to that price, but around here no one can sell them for that much.
If these were your ONLY options, I'd buy the '05.

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.
from a car sales consultant that works at carmax (me
)....I'll go with the 2005 LS sport...besides I bought my 03 LS sport sedan last year for $8990 with only 23884miles on it......
51K on a 03 its a lot of miles....but if you can get it for 7k-7500 get it

the 05 is only an ls, not ls sport
ummmm....well...then everything depends on you....what would you like...looks, chrome wheels, side skirts, etc etc...

also found out the orange 05 doesnt have power windows or locks either. i cant decide if all the extra options are worth the extra milage
^^^WHAT???
then thats not an LS.....LS cavalier adds power windows, power locks, 15inch wheel covers, spoiler, most of the time keyless entry also... if thats the one for 9900, the its kind of over priced for a base cavalier
my opinion....if you really want the options go with the LS sport.... if not get the newer one, but try to haggle and get it below 9100 out of the door ( tax, tag and dealer fee if any included ) then it
might worth it....

the 05 is an ls it has the 16 inch alloys, spoiler, cruise. none of which come on a base. however i asked him why it didnt have auto locks or windows for bein an ls and they had no clue. it was a program car.
The '05 Cavalier that you mentioned is not an LS or an LS Sport. It's a base model Cavalier with the "Sport Appearence Package" which adds the following:
** LS Sport "sport tuned" suspension
** 16 inch machined face aluminum (they are chrome on the LS Sport or a -$200 credit if they are use in place of the standard chrome wheels on the LS Sport models) wheels.
** rear spoiler.
Power Locks and Cruise Control are options on the base model Cavaliers (as well as XM Radio and Power Sunroof) but power windows are not. If the dealership is telling you that car is an LS (or any kind) then it's a good chance they don't know what kind of vehicles they are selling.
As far as the prices...they are steep. With either one you go after, I would try to talk them down as much as you can. There's a used dealership in my area that has a white 2003 Pontiac Sunfire with 44,000 that they are asking $10,000 for that hasn't sold in the 4 months it has sat on their lot. I don't think I would pay more that $6500 for use '05 base model Cavalier, especially when they could be had for around $10,700 new out the door and they depreciate in value so quickly.
However, whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck.
how much would you pay for the 03 ls sport?
seems to be high miles on both, the 05 should have no more than 10ish i wouldnt think and the 03 should have no more than 30ish, all my opinion though

Fully loaded pre-owned 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport with +51,000 miles. Seeing how the original owner probably got it for around $14,000 - $17,000 out the door due to insane rebates...I couldn't see myself paying no more than $7,500 for that car. $7,000 would be ideal, but I wouldn't go higher than $7,500. To me, that sound pretty fair for the age of the car, the mileage, the obvious wear & tear, and the options included on the car.

^^^ exactly what I said on my previous post....

Hehe, I didn't even realize that. I guess great minds think alike...
You should buy my car

Performance cars do not win car shows and show cars do not win races.
It's up to you to decide which you'd rather win.
Lookup the KKB Trade-In price and add $350, then subtract for anything wrong with the car.
you mean KBB.....kbb.com......add only 350??? what about dealer fee, reconditoning....well everything depends on the dealer your buying from
CaviFL45
just take the car thats cheapest
i went in to negoiate, and they told me they absolutely will not lower their price until the car has been on the lot for 60 days minimum and they have only been on for 30 and 28 days. i think thats sort of bs but i really like the orange 05.
The color makes the orange one pricelss, but I may be a little biased as well.
i don't think the 05 is a bad deal, there was a 02 z24 in the paper today they wanted teh same price
If the 05 is a base model (as it sounds w/o options) my insurance company gave me $9000 for mine when I totaled it out only 3 months after buying it with 9k on the clock. I totaled it in Jan 05, over a year ago, I'm sure that the value has gone down more.
