what is this? Purple wire under the intake goes back to a rely on the support behind the rad beside the battery....the other end of the wire goes in with a bunch of other wires and i lost it.....it looks like it shouldnt be there. Wondering if this is a stupid ebay thing....my car seems to run a little on the rich side.

x2
it was part of a recall , so a dealer put it in after the car was already in service
so kinda after market , but a factory piece dealer installed
Yup I am sure 99% of the J's have this, I know my 1996 cavalier did.

its the bulls#$% repair the dealers make with a heat shrink buttconnector . We took our cav to prestons to have the recall done and the car would only start intermittently .We went back and we were told it was the starter "BUT FOR ONLY $500.00 INSTALLED" YEA WHATEVER . We pulled the started and had it tested ,it was fine. turns out the connectors on the ignition recall kit were crap . I went back to the dealer with recall part in hand to show them their shoddy work and made them give me a new recall kit. Installed it properly and have had Zero problems since .
never had the kit.. never had a problem i suppose theres one out of a million times it happends gotta do it to them all..
also if u had it done u should have a sticker on ur rad. shroud saying the date it was performed
Well if you're stupid enough to hold the key in the start position for a minute (which is what the relay prevents, if I recall correctly), well, you get the idea.

hmmm..... everytime i go to start my car i leave it on the start position until i hear the fuel pump stop running-then start the car. mine has the recall relay/wiring deal installed as well.
so thats what causes the short? never knew that... my 97z never had it installed, after i get it running again ill take it down and see if i can still get the recall done. i know there was something to do with the steering rack that was recalled as well, i still need that done also.
i think bob means start as in turning the engine over... as you mean leaving the key in the run position...which i usually do to because it starts easier if you let the pump run for a bit
