What do you mean "Special Order only!!!"
Wednesday, March 05, 2008 12:25 PM
I work at an O'rielly's Auto Parts store in Fort Wayne IN. I'm tired of hearing "All I need to finish is __________, why don't you have one?

So between myself and my manager we hatched an idea to make a proposal to the upper management to try and get a good selection of performance parts as there aren't any speed shops in town, and the closest thing we have closes early.

Coming from this stand point, I've been complaining that we don't have hardened torque converter bolts, A/N fittings, Weld in O2 bungs, ect, ect. pretty much the universal speed parts. probably won't let us get many vehicle specific parts, but we'll see what happens.

What did you need that had to be put off because you went to the parts store looking for parts and were dissapointed?

Help me fill up the store

Thanks

How about some brands/part#'s.....our definition of quality might be a little different. I prefer Evercoat glass/resin/fillers for example.

We already carry some of the 3M products.

Evercoat
USC(duraglass)

unless you can get US Composites brands....but id imagine that would be a tough one

That's the image i'm trying to fix. But everyone has had to shut down early on a sunday afternoon because of a missing/broken/defective part or tool. What was yours?

For an extreme example, I blew up the lift cylinder on a borrowed cherry picker at 9pm while getting ready to put the 350 in my firebird. So I jumped in the car and sped the whole way to autozone to get there 10 min after they closed. I had spent a lot of time and money there, so after beating on the door and convincing donny I wasn't going to rob the place I ran over, grabbed the display model, threw a handful of cash at him and told him I'd get the change when I came in for the rest of the parts the next day.

I'm old enough to remember real part stores, its a shame that most of them have been put out of business with these 2 stepper McPart Stores.

we have a speed shop at home and they are pretty well stocked on random things like that but even they downt carry everyhting. unfortunaelty not everyone need performace parts on a regular basis...ordering online seems to be easier even for the stores

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Well from my experiences I deal with auto zone/advance for replacement parts for my old cav.I have had to order stuff specifically online only bc the store does not stock the item due to demand which is acceptable unless its something simple. For instance I needed a blower motor resistor had to order online bc my car has AC but yet they had the part for non AC cars in stock I was like wtf.Stupid to me but so be it.Your correct with some parts that seem common are not avail or hardware with alot of vendors and that's not uncommon.Good luck with creating a area for performance parts.

My local NAPA is REALLY good w/ the random odds and ends. I can't say that there's been a time that I've gone in there and not found what I wanted or at least ordered it and had it the next day. Hell they even have a laser to cut sheet metal that can do anything I can draw up to 1/2" thick stuff. The also sell autometer and a few other brands as well. I got my full sweep electric boost gauge there because believe it or not it was cheaper there than anywhere I could find online. Some of the other stuff they carry is a lil high priced but the store is only about 10min away as opposed to any of the major store chains which result in an hour round trip.

Skunk: Your sig looks fuxxored.

My local performance shop has horrendous hours, well, the one out of the three that doesn't seem shady (Witrak, but most locals know this already.)

Only 'issue' with them is they're more 'old-school' orientated. They make up for it by giving great discounts when they have to order in.
