I love the economy of my cavy, and the price I bought it for too (800 bucks)123,000 at the time, now 125,500 but its just a base model 3 speed no cruise cavy. it does have a sunroof and ac, so i guess thats a plus. I do need to replace my transmission and torque strut mount, and do a little body work on the passenger side rear fender, oh and replace the condenser for the AC. But i guess what im trying to ask is that is it really worth keeping and lightly modding, like a full catback, since my current exhaust has a leak at the flex pipe. I drove a Z24 and loved it, maybe because it had overdrive, cruise, and no mount problems. If I were to get a Z24 I wouldnt want to spend more than $3,000 on it, but that wont be until this winter.
it depends on what your goals are really...if your looking for a cheap grocery getter, fix it, and drive....if you are looking for something with a little more power, find a z24. I am personally a fan of keeping what you currently have.
just my personal experience, I wish I had never bought my second J. As soon as I took it home I felt like I just paid $10k for the exact same car (which, in the end, I suppose I did).

Well ive just been using it to get to and from work lately but this fall Ill be on the highway more, about once every 2 weeks for 300 miles. Ive been getting average mileage with it 27mpg highway, but with my cougar ive been getting around 26mpg highway. And plus with the cougar i dont have to plan ahead if I want to pass someone. Thats why I hate that its a 3 speed, anything above 55mph for it seems like a struggle, lol.
i was in the same boat as you, and i stumbled upon a deal that i couldnt pass up on a z24. if i were you, keep driving your base model, but keep your eyes open for deals.
i know what you mean though, the 2200 has zero power. upgrading to the ld9 is a night and day difference.
Check out my build thread!
Oh believe me I am, I need to sell mine though too if I were to get one. I found a nice 99 Z24 with power everything and sunroof for 3000, I would have got it but I didnt have the money at the time for a down payment
put out an ad to see how much you can possibly get for your car .. i would start at 1500 mabe? then go from there .. i got my z24 vert completely by accident.. while driving my work truck i spotted the poor little vert with a flat tire, mucho leaves and dirty and not to mention a broken window. kinda like finding a classic in a barn yard haha desided to leave a note on a scrap piece of paper. got called the same day !! lol went to see it the next day. two days after leaving the note, i bought it 800. 1999 Z24 vert with all options
I did put an ad out and I could of got 1500 out of it as it sits now, but my cougar gets horrible mileage around town, so I figured Id keep it till this winter or something, maybe I can find a convertible like you did for cheap.
goodluck on the search bro

Bah, both of you are crazy, lol.
Not sure why, but everytime this topic comes up, people have to say something like that. ^^^
(Joey excluded, lol.)
Why do you find it so hard to believe that some of us DO infact LIKE our cars?
This is a j-body enthusiast site.....not the haters ball, lol.

i was referring to a better J like he wants, cus his description sounds.....well, rough.
I still own my J
i also have a base cavalier for my winter car. i am right now puting the LS sport body kit on it now. only thing from the front its going to look like a 98 Z24 from the back its going to look like a 2002 LS sport. i have the 4 speed auto and ac thats its. for this winter im puting a cluster from a Z24 in it for the tack and a auto start. the car runs fine it has 110k on it so im just going to dress it up alittle. if i want to drive something fast i have my G5 GT siting in the garage.
congratulations on a successful thread jack
umm yea if he got what i was saying something that you didnt. was to keep the car put some nicer things on it then when you want a fun car to drive take the cougar.
I was, and might still do get a Z24 front bumper for it if I can find the turn signal lights for a decent price. Im fixing the AC this weekend so hopefully the condenser is the only thing thats wrong with it or ill be p!ssed.

its the exact same ones that are on your car. honestly i say get rid of the car. your negitive attitude towards the car shows your not happy with it and you wish it was better. my advice is get rid of it for a z24 that you want instead of dumping money into this one to make it like a z24
The only reason I would get a z24 bumper is if mine were damaged, which it is, and if i could get one for the same price as a regular one, which I can. I do have a negative attitude towards it now since the reason i bought it in the first place has come and gone, and after driving a z24 it was a million times better.
then honestly i wouldnt waste any money on the car. obviously if you need to do some repairs to get more money then do that (like replace the front bumper) but also look at how much your going to make off the car if you do fix it versus how much its gonna cost if you do fix it. meaning if you can get 1200 with a bad front bumper versus 1500 with a good front bumper but its gonna cost you 400 to get the bumper, paint, etc... then its not worth it since your losing out by doing that. save what you can and get a z24 because thats what you want.
