Ok earlier i was working on my sunfire after finding a vaccum leak. Well i fixed it then went up the road about 2 miles and was coming back down the road. When i got behind a truck that i swear was only doing about 50 so when i get to the passing zone i passed him and got back in the lane. Well then i pull into my uncles shop where i was previously.
Found another vaccum leak at my brake boost and fixed that. Then i clean up my mess and all that which in all took about 20 to 25 mins. Well here comes this big guy in and heys like who's beast is this and i thought it was just a customer of my uncles. So i said mine and then he's like whats your name so i told him then out of no where he's like well i'm going to get a warrant for your arrest tomarrow unless you want to come into the magistrate office.
I then said um what for and he tired to tell me that i passed him 50 feet before the non passing zone(which i passed him right when it started), that i passed him like he was setting still( which i kind of did i guess but slowed right back to the speed limit) , And that when i passed him i almost ran if off the road which was untrue. I then said i never almost or tried to run you off the road.
Then he's like yeah you did what's your birth date and i asked him if i had to give it to him and he told me it was up to me in which i didn't because the whole time i'm standing there like wtf... He never told me his name or showed a badge. And was in regular clothes. Also in a orange chevy extended cab when i passed a blue one. Keep in mind this was around 20 to 30 mins after i pulled into uncles. This happened in west virginia if that matters.
Just curious if he can do it or not? And in all honesty what i should do?
A cop can do about whatever they want and get by with it. You have nothing to worry about. If that guy were a cop something would have been done right then and there. Just forget about him. He is just one of those loosers at life.

meh, people are @!#$s...You should have asked to see a badge but more than likely he was not a cop...if he was and he had enough pull to get a warrent simply based off of his word then he would have had enough pull to just arrest you right on the spot, even if he was off duty.
Plus cops cant really threaten you like that... Thats how THEY get in trouble.

After reading this, it doesn't really sound like that guy was a cop. It may have just been someone looking to start trouble. I've had many people like this tailgating me lately. I was doing 40 in a 30 zone on a two lane road when a guy in an older GMC truck got on my bumper. He then tried to pass on the right side of my car. I saw a Mountaineer parked on the side of the road, so I pulled to the left to make this guy think I was letting him pass. He didn't hit the Mountaineer, but from what he was screaming, I think I scared him pretty good!

none that i know of.. Besided what he says. o and when he said i had a choise to come into the magistrate and get a citation or get a warant for my arrest. I told him i would come in. But i don't really want to for the for the fact that is hard to till what he would try... In all honesty i don't know what to do so it is worrying the crap out of me. I don't want stuck with a another ticket for something i didn't do.
Because my tickets just went off from when i was 16 2 for speeding. One in which i wasn't but aplead guilty to any way. But that was the past and i don't want my insurance to go sky high like it was before. Mainly for something that i never did in the first place. Well i did pass him and he tried to tell me he was running 60mph in which the speed limit was 55. But he was only running like 45 50. When he was leaving though he got on his cell and called something to get my info cuz i heard him say i was 16 to 19 years old. And then he just left.
And i just googled moreless samething and some people said that a cop is a cop 24/7 and can basically do what ever. Then some said he would have had to call a on duty officer to issue me a ticket... P.S the cops up here are dirty as can be. One just got busted about 4 months ago for pulling over about 20 to 30 women and tried to give them a ticket and told them they could get out of if they did.... well you can kind of figure that part out. It was in the papers and all that. And i know two other cops that are state police doing the same thing....
he was a cop also... Because he told my uncle his name and plus i heard him call in on his cell and give some id or badge number or something... I didn't ask for his badge because i was more in shock after he cam up to me talked just fine. but he didn't do anything on the the spot just left..
i doubt hes going to do @!#$. like they all said its his word against yours. plus if you passed him why the @!#$ didnt he just speed up and follow you to whereever your going and get you right then instead of waiting for 20 mins. I think hes just trying to scare you and plus he aint going to be able to get a warrant for your arrest over you passing him. hes just trying to scare you.
Another reason why this country could use fewer cops, give everyone a gun and let the cops go after the real bad guys.

if he was a cop, then he should have been able to do something right then and there. if he wasnt, then @!#$ him, he cant do anything. if he identified himself as a cop and isnt one, then he could get into some trouble for impersonating a police officer.
Chris good point that was what i was moreless thinking why wait 20 to 30 mins. The truck i passed was blue though and got behind me when i pulled in the body shop. But kept going down the road. In all honesty i think it wasn't even him that someone that knew him called him or he was riding with someone. Because when he came he was and orangish red one chevy.
Tabs that's also what i was thinking why didn't he do something there? I think around here they have to turn in there ticket book things though. From what i've heard though he should have had another on duty cop come. But he also never identified himself as a cop at first came up being buddy buddy then started to act like a cop so who knows.
The main thing that worrys me is him saying he will get a warrant for my arrest or go in and get a citation. I sure as H3LL don't want to go to jail and sure don't want a ticket for a bunch of horse@!#$ lies. If it was him i actually passed in a different vehicle i think he was just mad because i supposably passed him like he was setting still in a sunfire.
But in al honesty when doing 45 50 and only putting my 2.4 in 3rd to pass him i see it a bit funny that i passed him like he was setting still. If it was the t/a i could find it more believable.
I've passed an off duty officer before, then stopped at the gas station to get smokes. He followed me in there got real @!#$ty w/ me, in the end nothing happened. He said he could have had me arrested and all this bs. It's just high school bullies that ended up w/ a badge sometimes.

i would have laughed in his face personally. If he can't produce a badge, or a legit badge number, piss on him and laugh. Any schmuck can act like they are calling in to "the station" and giving a "badge number", but whats to say he wasnt talking to thin air?
I would have also got his plate number and then called the cops to verify if he was really a cop. If not, then he's getting arrested for impersonation

i think its a bunch of bs one time when i was younger i was messing around and i lost control and ran 2 stop signs in front of an off duty cop he called me in and the on duty cop gave me 4 tickets but when i went to court for them i didnt have to pay them cuz the on duty cop didnt see me. off duty cops r just regular people
sounds to me like someone trying to start trouble. Even if it was a cop, you could fight that in WV, considering 1) He wasnt in uniform 2) no badge on him that you saw...and 3) he was driving a orange pickup..sounds to me like some average joe. I wouldnt worry about it, doesnt sound like a big deal, you would have had to do something then and there if anything at all.

I know here in Iowa they either have to be in a uniform OR there badge has to be visible when they are talking to you. A citation cannot be written unless at least one of the 2 are there. I know this personally.
Several years ago, I was at work and my wife called me hysterical and in tears. There was a police officer at our door threatening to take her to jail because she had a warrant for her arrest, which he had NO paperwork whatsoever. Keep in mind, this was at 11:30PM!! The only way he stated that she would not have to go to jail was to put $400 cash in an envelope and he would take her to the post office and drop it off in a mail box, addressed to the Black Hawk county courthouse.
I thought this was very strange, but I did what he said, knowing that he was not going to be getting the money personally.
The next day I called and attorney, he took my case, we went to court, I won with flying colors and thats when I found out about the law. The judge asked the police officer why he was at our house in no uniform, showing no badge OR paperwork, but driving a police car.
Come to find out, an outside company had hired this police officer to do this "duty", while he was OFF duty. Big no, no. The judge actually put some legal action on the officer and the outside company. All of this was because of my wifes ex-husband had a loan at some check place and they could not find him so they come after my wife, 4 years later!
Anyway, in Iowa, you would have been fine. Sounds to me like this so called "rent-a-cop" was on a power trip and just trying to scare you.
I would not lose any sleep over it!
it was probably some @!#$ that never had the time or money to work on a car. some people just have to be dicks to people that are doing what they were never able to do. my house is on a really busy corner, everytime im outside working on my car or doing something to my car there will be so many people driving by talking a whole bunch of bull @!#$.
next time ask for a badge if he dont want to show you it, turn around and go about your business. If he dont have time to show you his badge, You dont have time to talk bs with him.

ya something like that. i went around a corner power sliding and lost control and i was hauling ass to get away from their so i blew 2 stop signs while the whole time the cop was behind me in his personal vehicle
