Trust/Greddy declare bankruptcy

The market for aftermarket parts from Japan has been declining for well over five years, due in part to decreased demand both at home and abroad and the rising rates of Chinese knock-offs and other inexpensive (and dubiously built) components.

Today, one of the world's largest performance parts companies, known as Trust in Japan and Greddy here in the States, declared bankruptcy. According to various reports, Trust is approximately $60 million in debt and, after reporting a serious decline in sales since February 2008 and amassing $43 million in loan payments, filed for bankruptcy in Tokyo District Court.

Trust has been around since 1976, employs almost 200 workers and had been dealing in everything from CARB-legal exhausts to turbo systems when Greddy Performance Products was founded in the U.S. in 1994. There are several firms that will step up to fill the need of enthusiasts, assuming that Trust doesn't try to reorganize, but with the aftermarket industry down overall, we suspect this won't be the last time we'll here about a large tuner going under.

wow thats a surprise.. youd think with all the drifting getting big and all that thier race teams that use greddy parts would account for alot of sales

beginning of the end for our scene?

It could also be related to price. Many aftermarket companies have found that lowering their prices people would rather spend an extra 50->$100 parts on the real thing, as opposed to the $100+ differential most parts have.

An after market Motorcycle parts manufacturer did this with their frame sliders a few years back and it proved to be effective and squelching the crapetition.

I really think their taking a beating from their EMS sales primarily, megasquirt has come so far and is much cheaper. Everyone should also realize there isn't always one reason for a company filing bankruptcy. Poor management, exorbitant salaries, not identifying new markets, all those and more can downfall what may seem like a great company from the outside.

when you mean scene do you mean imports or Js ?
from what i understand Jappan is in a recession too. turns out jappanese people arent spending enough
what did we get from greddy that we cant get from some body else
i would imagine there is Hahn, Vulcan, the gm charger and nitrous. i think it sucks for people older japanese pocket rockets like rx-7 supra and dsms who have there upgrade parts and might be up the creek if a manifold cracks or some thing.

With all do respect, APC made @!#$ty parts and poor designs, Erebuni had pretty poor designs too imho.

DC made good parts, but they tended to be over priced, and as posted earlier, if you look into it I bet you find gross mismanagement at Greddy. They'll be back though

i hate apc as well... but a lot of their parts were made for SHOW ONLY and not for daily drivers. THAT is why a lot of their products go to sh!t.

The tuner scene is slowing down. New standereds emissions bull@!#$ and laws prohibiting aftermarket modifications are likely on the way.
In NY you get a ticket for a modified exhuast. I have to go to court on monday for this bull. Yes it has all emissions equipment and was under 81 decibles.
