basically riced to me is clear taillights, big wings other than stock, fart cans rigged on the stock exhaust piping because your too lazy to do up a nice exhaust, gauges in a pillar that serve no purpose other than light shows and body kits (most)

I agree there! and add gobs of stickers, and quite frankly I can't stand those HUGE rims/tiny tires!

Yep! Now i specialize in custom vinyl graphics but you can tastefully do them to an extent

hmmm...well, i guess i might end up with a "riced) car eventually...i want a spoiler a little larger than stock, and i'm going with smoke tail and head lights, and a body kit and custom hood, and it all painted a deep mettalic blue...riced?and, i would be using bigger rims, cuz i want to put big brakes on it....
Re: riced?

If there is a performance purpose to a mod, it cannot really be called rice... so the rims to fit the brakes would not be rice, the hood and bodykit... depends on what they are and how tastefully they compliment the car. Spoilers aren't necissarily a bad thing, as long as they are properly proportioned and at least look to be functional... And no one is gonna really say anything about paint. For instance, look at sndsgood's car. That paint job kicks serious ass!

some people have different opinions on exactly what 'rice' is. and some get pretty defensive about it, in fact.

me personally... i dont think it's a good term to use anymore. not since i had a conversation with a person of Asian decent about cars etc. we got to talking about these 'tuner' cars and i explained i didnt like 'riced out' ones and she asked 'well what does that mean' i then said to myself 'eh.. wait.. 'rice' is kind of derogatory towards her because thats basically how the term got started, from 'rice burners' or cars from asian decent themselves and i pretty much choked out 'well it means the car hasn't got socially acceptable things done to it in a manner where the owner is doing it just to look cool and doesn't take their time with said modification' and she got upset and thought i was talking about asain people.

it really wasnt the best thing because it ended up in a big argument and ultimately me, apologizing for being racist. and i really didnt mean it that way, but really.. if you think about it... it kind of is being racist.

most people just use it as a term loosely surrounding cars with nasty mods done, but what you dont think about is the origination of the word and how it came to be.

i now just use 'that thing is a POS'.

Are you scared of the changes coming? The answer is on the inside.

the term has changed so many times in the last 10 years or so that its pretty much meaningless. now a days people call something rice if they dont like it. nothing more nothing less, if they dont like the way someone modded their car its rice. if its not the perfect color it will be called a ricers color. even if its something on here that has been majorly fast in the 300hp+ range there is some guy on another site who will go why did you rice out a piece of crap cavalier. so stop worrying about what some word means and just build your car the way you want to. if your building it for others to begin with or to keep from being called a ricer then your kind of a poser anyway.

(my responce wasnt specifically for the origonal poster, but for anyone who modifies cars)

i'm not modifying my car to not be a ricer...just curious if it would be or not.

now i'm gonna go put neon under it, paint it bright orange yellow and red, with a 18"spoiler, and put suicide doors on it...
Re: riced?

rice means different to a lot of people.

to most.. a modded ANYTHING j-body is rice. doesnt to us... but it does to others.

"RICE" i believe is in the eye of the beholder.... most of the good cars on here are not rice. the bone stock cavaliers with park bench spoilers 3 speed autos, fart cans, eGay and autozone "custom" is rice.... but.... whomever installed it on their car thinks it looks good, so w/e. you think you car is the @!#$, i may argue it looks like hell. RICE is a pointless derogitave term which i hate. How you modify your car is your personality, its just a matter of opinion to me,
