General Motors announced at press conference Tuesday evening the closure of the Saturn brand, and a de-emphasis on Pontiac. Saturn dealerships will be closed by 2011, and no new models will be introduced under the nameplate. Meanwhile, Pontiac will be phased out as a distinct division. Certain “niche” models will still cary the Pontiac name, but they will be sold at Chevrolet dealerships.

GM cars have resale value?
Kidding aside, it won't do resale values any favors.

I read earlier that GM and Chrysler are wanting another 21.6billion. I think they should stop all "bail out" money to all companies.

I agree...
It sucks to see a brand ( pontiac ) that has been around for decades just fizzle away to almost nothing, but at the same time these companies need to stay afloat. And if this is what it takes then so be it...
As for saturn, I just hope they keep the look of the sky and rebadge it as a chevy...that would be sick.
the sky will stay on as one of the few pontiacs that will still be sold if I recall.
essentially, Pontiac will be the performance and style version like it used to be way back in the day. . .

come on Brad, really?
you better be kidding.
i hope the was a joke. it's just a pontiac matrix. 1.8L toyota motor.
anyway, sucks to see pontiac dwindle down to almost nothing and saturn go away completely but i'd rather see gm stay in business personally. as for chrysler, i hope they don't go under even more. i'm not really a fan of them, but i work for them so i would like to keep my job lol. the bail outs are getting pretty rediculous though. i don't know why they need that much money and i don't know where the government plans to get it.....oh, nevermind. stupid taxes. i thought we were a capitalist economy? doesn't that mean that the government stays out of the private sector of business? maybe i just didn't understand that when they taught it in school...

The Vibe is a Matrix, the Matrix has been listed as a Corolla Matrix in print many times, the Matrix is considered a Corolla.
You know what GM needs to do??? They need to scratch the worthless brand that is GMC, axe the insanely overpriced Cadillac models like the Escalade and XLR, and concentrate on downsizing brands to only what sells and STOP making identical models like the Acadia and the Enclave. Why would GM even do that??? And it's mostly only GM. Very few other companies do it--Ford and Lincoln being the main exception. But the quality products like the Malibu, CTS, and Solstice could have had an even bigger impact if they had come earlier.
As it stands, however, getting rid of Saturn is not the answer and neither is watering down Pontiac to basically nothing.
