My 2.4 is cooked.
Have a possible engine 2.4 from 1996 GrandAm. Apparently will work BUT this one has a EGR valve. Need to be able to pass e-test ongoing, so I do not think this is a straight swap in.
Looking for advice on if this engine will work.
Thanks
yes it will work all you gotta do is run the 99 exhaust manifold and gasket then just ditch the EGR. you'll also need to use the 99 intake manifold as it has the EGR hole plugged.
-run the 99 fuel system
-run the 99 knock sensor (you'll need an adapter plug as the 99 bolt is smaller than the 96 bore, the specific part number is here use the search)
the 96 motors utiliize an oil level sensor in the oil pan, you're 99 does not. dis-regard, you will not need it.
its a pretty easy swap, actually.

Thanks for the help.
re: changing the intake - Can't I just cover it with a plate?
I believe the 99 EGR is internal. I'm am concerned the 96 engine won't pass e-test if I just block off the egr hole.... Your thoughts?
Use the manifolds and everything from your 99, on the 96 block. Then you don't have to worry about anything other than the adapter for the knock sensor.
Good time to clean out the goo that tends to accumulate in the intake manifold as well.

no the 99 at least a 99 on a j-body has no egr, absolutely none. external or internal.
if you do this right (like i said) you wont need to worry about blocking any holes.
