When i rev my car in neutral, it stalls out...
Tuesday, June 05, 2007 10:08 AM
I have a 99 cav z2.4 DOHC,
Exhaust, Headers, Intake.. General stuff..

But the problem is, when i rev my engine, either warm or slightly cool; it stalls out.
I'm not even redlining it either, it's just a "show" rev.

What could be the problem?
THANKS.

well dont rev it in neutral, problem solved

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

I assume it otherwise drives pretty well? Does it stumble for bit rather than just dropping straight dead? Does it ever stumble or have a tendency to drop a little lower in revs after you suddenly let off the throttle such that it returns to idle quickly? For example with an automatic, starting up a hill from a stop then letting off the throttle all at once, and since the car was going up a grade, it stops and returns to idle right away.

Try staying on the throttle just a little after you rev so that it doesn't quite drop to idle speed. If it's fine with this, but not when returning to idle w/ zero throttle input, it could be a fault in the IAC (Idle Air Control) system like the IAC valve. I'm not sure if the valve is vacuum or electronically controlled in your car, but whichever it is check that system all the way to its source. Follow the vac to the intake manifold (on N/A intakes), or the hot wire to its source as well as the ground.

Actually, a vacuum leak anywhere on a car can cause any other vacuum-related system to fault or fail including a vacuum actuated IAC
