Problem Removing Motor Mount

Whats crackalackin? Well, I am trying to replace my motor mount, and I have run into a problem. The old mount won't come out. I have the mount bracket on the workbench, dissassembled -- everything is off the bracket except the mount itself. I removed the two bolts going through the top of the mount and everything. On the bottom of the bracket there are two holes, although I am not sure why as there are no bolts behind them. So I am sitting here tugging and pulling, even went as far as to lock a vise around the mount itself and twist and pull and cuss. By the way, this is on a 1997 Fire SE 2.4 if it matters. I didn't have this problem changing the mount on my 95 2.2 Fire so I am not sure why it's not coming off this time. Maybe a corrosion/rust weld on the bottom of the mount? Anyone able to help?? I would appreciate it.

If you are replacing the factory rubber one if you look at the bottom of the metal bracket thing it sets in. There is two holes and if you look close there is metal that hooks to the rubber mount and is flared out in those holes. You have to drill out those holes that are flared. Or use a digrinder with a cone bit or a dremel.

After that just knock the mount out of the bracket and install the new one as it should have came with two bolts to go where the holes you drilled out are. I also recommend to have someone tack the bolts to the bracket to keep from popping threw or coming loose.

Ok I bought the new mount itself from Advance Auto -- just the rubber mount -- that's all they show. I then went to my local GM dealer and the dude said the mount and the bracket it sits in are one piece, and at $147.xx. I thought b.s.! So that helped to confuse me more. Anyway, I looked really close again at the two holes in the bottom of the bracket, and I can't seem to see any flared holes in there?? I'm lost and this is the only thing keeping me from putting the finished motor back in the car! Thanks again Blown Phoniex and errbody for your help!!

you have to look real close.. And you don't need the whole mount just the rubber... Did you take all the bolts out of it? If so look at the bottom like i said if you look close at the holes you can see like a circle groove or lip. This is what i'm talking about. Because if you look at the hole it starts bib then gets smaller. Take a dremel or something you can get in there and grind with and go at the same angle as the hole. Till you get to the edge or the groove/circle lip. When you do take a punch and stick in on the holes and hit it with a hammer. And it should pop out. I don't know how else to explain it.

If you still can't figure it out then take a pic of it and i will show you what i'm talking about. I could take a pic of the one i got laying beside me that i changed. But i don't think it would help you since i can't take it apart cuz i tack welded the bolts so they wouldn't come loose.

First post!

Flip if upside down in your vise. Get a stepper drill bit and go to work on the holes. It will fall right out after the flare is drilled out.
