Fuel Line at Filter
Sunday, August 31, 2008 4:13 PM
So since I have no idea when my fuel filter was last changed, I thought I would do it his weekend when I changed my oil. Well, not happening. The first 6 or so inches of fuel line coming out of the quick connect are rusted to death, to where we are afraid to touch them. Does anyone have any advice or maybe know if they have like a pigtail solution with the quick connect on one end, flared to go into the fuel line at a later point?

Of course, this happens on a sunday, before a holiday, so no where near me is opened, so I hve till next weekend to hunt around, just hoping someone may have some advice or know where i couldfind something already set up.

99 cavalier rs, 2200, stock.

Thanks

Any time, any where, Lets put it on the line and race thru the lights

well, here is the solution I used. Get some new rubber line, and some hose clamps. Cut the metal end where the rust stops use a die grinder or hack saw or something, but be careful not to pinch the metal line., put new rubber line on there with a hose clamp. Cut other end where the quick disconnect is and hose clamp your new filter to the stock line. If it is dry rotted, run new hose and use the hose clamp. This was a way better fix for me, now I dont have to fool with the quick disconnect. You may want to pick up some hose connectors as well... The whole project including the new filter should be under $20... Hope this helps!

we didnt even touch it. not even to see how bad it was. don't know how long its been that way, so if no one touches it, it should stay fine until I can get a replacement. its only that little section thats bad tho

cut the section that is bad, put rubber there and hose clamp the two ends. Or you could not touch it, wait until a shop is open, ans buy all the correct hoses and metal line and then do it. Either way. If it is you only mode of transportation and you arent too sure of what you are doing (trust me, I have been there b4), leave it alone.

so it is cool to use rubber at this point in the fuel line? thought the pressure might be to high for rubber gas line. if this is the case, then i'm just gonna get that diameter tubing and torque the hose clamps when i change my oil
