help with rear brakes
Sunday, October 12, 2008 11:11 AM
i am in the process of doing new drums and shoes on my girls 03 2.2 cavalier. Ive got everything pulled apart except on piece and im kinda stumped on how to remove the pin that connects the ebrake arm to the shoe. The chilton book says there is supposed to be a pin with a c clip but that is not the case on this car. any help would be appreciated.......

I'm pretty certain the Chilton's books (and the Haynes ones too) only cover the 95-02 brakes... the 03-05 are different (larger drums). You might need to seek out a GM service manual.

Other than that, I can't help... sorry! Free bump!

the chilton does cover 03 and up and it says that there is to be a pin there with a c clip well there is a pin but not the kind that is supposed to be there.... im just wondering if the chilton is wrong or did the guy who did my brakes last time ghetto rig some funky crap in there...... so if HAVE done rear brake work on your cavalier you help would be much appreciated

There are 2 different types of shoes for the 03. Some have the clip style and some have the style where you have to physically remove the p-brake cable.
Maybe you have the wrong shoes. I am in Canada so it might be different with the options where ever you are.

the c clip is on the older drums, trust me ive done both. no c clip like that on this one, the one in that book in the diagram is all pics of the older style smaller drums. the 03-05 are a piece of cake compared to the older style imo!

ok i figured it out.... thank you to mr choo..... it seems that autozone sold me the wrong shoes.... the ones i needed have the ebrake arm attached out of the box.... so that mystery pin is not supposed to be removed
