missfire in cylinder 4

I have a question that i hope someone can answer. I have a 2003 pontiac sunfire with no mods but an intake. Recently i noticed my gas mileage has been getting worse. the last time i went on a long trip my cel came on and was an o2 problem bank 1 sensor 1. I erased the code and it hasnt went off in like 6months. The other day i went on a long trip and no code goin but it did flash once well on the way back the cel came on and stayed on. I asumed it was the o2 sensor again so i had it checked and it was a missfire in cylinder 4. I erased the code and it has yet to go off again it seems to only go off on long trips but not with daily driving. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this i only have 65000 miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

well one thing that you are doing wrong is clearing the code. there is valuable freeze frame data that could really help nail your issue down.

i can honestly say i never will understand people's reasoning with: "oh, the check engine light's on, there cant be anything actually WRONG, i'll just shut it off and not try to find out whats going on." the light comes on for a REASON. how many miles on your car? the o2 sensor (front) is probably past due for a change, as are your plugs, fuel filter, and air filter.i would start at looking at the air filter and plugs though.

i have the same issue as you.

02 ls sport( ecotec). 5 spd, 50k miles and i got that code 2 times now. i also have just a intake done. got it once, cleared it, got it again a month later and hasnt came on for a few hundred miles at least.

i replaced the fuel filter on normal intervals, just did the plugs here a few thousand miles ago.(ac delco)

gas mileage i think is the same as new.

I think it is the 02 sensor going bad on my cav, , 02 sensor code usually means a bad sensor i would think..
i have a new one coming, but wont get to put it in as the car is getting put away for winter.

weird thing is that it dont run bad. it could be a missfire, but not sure what the heck would cause it.?

first time i got the code, i had it floored getting on the on ramp with the ac on, so the car didnt go anywhere really.

i will keep a eye on this thread though.

rich- i would change the plugs, fuel filter, air filter, and the 02 sensor if i was you.
