Help - Car is Possessed....
Thursday, November 13, 2008 6:37 AM
My girlfriends car is having some issues...they started a couple days ago...It's a 95 cavalier 5 speed......they are intermittent but happen often....when you start the car, the parking brake like and abs light come on and stay on, the display on the deck flashes. When you start to drive, it hesitates and lurches, and generally bogs and runs like crap. If you then turn the car off and try to restart it, it won't start no click, nothing doesn't even turn over...but if you turn the headlights on it will start fine....do this a few times and it runs good until it is shut off, then the cycle starts all over! help please!

Clean her battery cables. I mean peel some of the plastic covering off and get the "green" chit out of there. This may clear up some of her problems. I would replace the bearings/hubs if the abs/brake light stays on.

hmm side post batteries that ive seen don't get that much corrosion as top post batteries...

you might want to get a battery load test and/or charging system test while they're on the vehicle

autozone/ advance auto parts does this on the parking lot for free... just don't do it while it's raining out

ok here's what I did so far.....I cleaned all the connections/grounds around the battery. Took it for a test drive and no difference....but when it started hesitating and acting weird I opened the hood and could hear a loud clicking coming from the fused and relays.....since the abs light was coming on when it did this I pulled the abs relay, and poof no more clicking....the car has run good since(parking brake and abs lights are on)but now I still need to turn the headlights on to start the car...???? any ideas....the battery is at 12.3 volts and over 14 when running...I don't have an autozone or advance around here so i can't bring it there.
