I hate to repost this, but havent gotten an answer in the second gen forums. Here it goes.
Sorry if this is a broad question at all. Here's the story, my cousin snapped a rod in his cavalier about 3 years ago, its basically been sitting that long, but moved twice. I offered him $100 for the car and he said yeah. So worst (but most likely) case scenario, the motors toast. I'm trying to keep this cheap, as in not spend too much, still make a profit. The body seems good, but i haven't inspected it thoroughly, needs some fresh paint is what i do know. He had it repainted about 6 years ago. I need to know what year 2.2 motors will swap, i don't even know the exact year of the car, it just seems like a good project. I do know its a 2.2 auto somewhere between 1991 and 1994. I know almost nothing about these motors as far as difference in years, I just want a motor that i can re-gasket and bolt in without problem. I don't want to have to swap anything, kinda in a money bind. Could someone please help me and give me a good opinion on this.

common sense would say the donor would have to be same gen of car, and have same motor style etc. other than that, not a second gen expert so I prolly wont be much help. If it has the 2.2L then you have a 2.2L OHV and can more than likely get a motor (used) for ~$400, or rebuilt for ~$800.
I know autozone makes/has rebuild kits in the $500 range with LT Warranty on parts and rebuilding a 2.2L OHV is pretty simple and straightforward.
