just put in a cai and noticed that my car idles considerably low now the guage says like 700ish, so here is my problem
while driving i noticed that the when i accel the rpm needle goes up pretty fast but when i let of the gas the needle stays on the current rpm and then i blips meaning it goes down then up then all the way back down to current rpm speed. now from what i can tell is it something to do with my maf or proper maf sealing on the cai?
Is it just the guage doing this, or is it the engine actually having an irratic idle? If it is your engine, I would fist look for vacum leaks. Like did it only start doing this after the intake swap? if so, then check the sesnor that hooks into your intake tube for leaks (forgot what it is called). Spray some ether around your engine and listen for rpm rises, if it sises, then you can pin point the vacum leak this way.
98 z24, few upgrades, nitrous on the way!
A little more info would help. Third gen J cars do not have a MAF, not sure about first or second gens. depending on the engine. Your profile is empty, we have no idea what year, make, or model your car is. Transmission may be of some help as well.
Correction to previous post, the sensor I am referring to is the IAT sensor. And I didnt mean if the car "sisses" I meant rises in rpm.....

my mistake guyz i should have included make its an 05 sunfire, and to ans questions the engine doesnt sound like its have irratic idle its pretty smooth its only the guage and it happened after the swap. like when i let of the gas instead of the rpm needle slowly and smoothly falling down to idle it will like drop and then smoothen out. im guessing its a leak in the cai where the sensor is but it seemed like a tight fit. its a aem typhoon intake.
If the engine is keeping a steady idle and teh gauge is bouncing around you problem is most likely with the gauge. Actualy a rather common problem with the 03 up cars. Also your IAT having a loose fit in the intake tube (assuming pre TB) will not have any affect on your idle. Your car does not meter the incoming air to the TB. You could have 2" hole in the tubing and not see any difference because of it. If you have a leak after the TB you will have some issues. However as stated, if the engine itself is holding steady your problem most likely the gauge.
hmm ok ill have to read one of those guage issue threads but im pretty sure the guage is fine its nothing irratic it slowly and smoothly goes up a bit and then drops down and becomes smooth. so ill have to see on that one
