annoying 2200 oil drain plug leakage
Saturday, January 10, 2009 4:55 PM
So ive found there is a drip coming from the oil drain plug in my 98 2200. so i changed the oil/filter and new drain plug with new rubber gasket. still drips.
Tried re-tightening the drain plug and still drips. the oil pan threads are fine, the oil pan isnt warped or anythng and its for sure coming from the oil drain plug, i sat underneath and watched it today trying to figure out wth to do with it.
I'm sure this has happened before, so whats some good suggestions, this leak is getting old and annoying its been there since i bought the car back in aug. 08 along with power steering res. leaking that i fixed a while back.

btw i made sure the thread size on the new plug matched factory, same bolt head size, magnetic and with new gasket.

May I suggest buying some permatex (high temp) thread sealant sold at auto zone, advance auto or napa comes in a white tube for under 5 bux. This will not harm anything! Just put a small amount on the threads and tighten. This seals ALL fluids from leaking like oil, fuel, trans, etc and u can clean this off easily with brake clean each time u do a oil change.I use it mostly on eng sensors to prevent leaks.I stay away from the from the teflon tape(it sucks). This product is nothing short of kick azz,I have used it for yrs with no leaks on any thing I used it for.Hope this helps give u solid fix to the issue.
