Whats the best way to unfreeze the water around the Water Pump on my 2.2 94 cavy? I went out to start it today and the belt came off, so I go to rebelt the system and notice that the water pump pulley is stuck, so i'm assuming its Frozen and need help to UN thaw it.
I don't know j-body's yet........but I will!
If the coolant froze around the pump you will probably have bigger problems to worry about.
apparently there wasn't enough anitfreeze in my mix to keep it from freezing. The same thing happen on Wed but after a few hours it was fine. I checked the Freeze plugs they are still in tack and everything, but the pulley will not budge.

You can try pouring hot water (tap, not boiling) on the pump for a while and see what happens. Use anything hotter and you run the risk of things cracking. If there's any room in the radiator, add some straight antifreeze. If all else fails, you might have to push it into a (warmer) garage. It's in your best interest to correct the antifreeze the next time it's thawed out. Good luck.
Thanks I will try the Tap water when I get home............would a normal blow dryer help any? I dont have a garage around me to use, and it normally doesn't get cold enough here to freeze so I was shocked, the car started just fine but the water pump pulley didn't move.

Didn't think of the hair dryer, but if you've got power nearby, go for it. Just keep it moving and don't concentrate in one spot. Take care.
Thanks for your help! I'll let you know if the hair dryer works.

If that does not work use a propane torch the portable hand held and use with care.If u do not want to do that use a shop light with a standard light bulb and place it as close to the pump as u can and check every ten minutes or so bc the heat off this type is pretty hot(I own one and it gets hot).Hope this all works out.I would def flush and refill the system and I usually use more antifreeze than water on my mix being almost one gallon freeze and top off with water but that varies to each area of the country ur in and preference.Good luck
ok well good news, after heating it with a lamp for about 10 minutes it became loose and I found it it was more slushie then Ice. I replaced the water pump (I've got 235,000 Miles ) on it and to my knowledge it had never been done before now, all hoses, thermostat and gasket just to be safe. i'm having a leak problem somewhere I can hear it slightly hissing at me from behind the fan area, how can I repair that leak in the radiator? i've checked pressure and everywhere for leaks, the head gasket is fine, but I'm loosing coolant still. no visible drips or drainage, but steam after driving for a few minutes will come out from under the hood at red lights or other stops.
When I check for leaks with the steam coming I can't tell where its coming from exactly but it seems to me coming from the radiator behind the fan..............any suggestions?
