okay, so i drove my car this morning and i smelled burning oil so i pulled over and the oil was all over the engine bay around the exhaust manifold i figured out that the oil was only comming out of the dip stick tube and there was smoke coming out of the tube as well, there was also smoke coming out and when i took the fill cap off it was smoking in there too what could this be? i drove it home after topping it off, it was a pint short, could this be an oil pump? or something stupid like the dipstick is too loose?
One thing that causes oil to spray out of the dipstick is if you are having blow-by.. (blow-by is when air thats in the combustion chamber blows passed the pistons/rings and finds itself in the crank case, and finds the weakest link to get out which is often your dipstick). If this is what is happening, my guess on why it was smoking, would be that your oil sprayed out of your dipstick and then when it hit the hot surfaces, aka, ur exhaust manifold, it started smoking.
You get more blow-by the more you step on the throttle, and the more air that you force into the chamber. Were u driving it hard at all prior to smelling burning oil?
Here's a thought: Have you checked the operation of the PCV system lately? Betcha need a new valve for it!
Go beyond the "bolt-on".

i had been driving on the highway for about 10 minutes, so to check if it's blow by i would check my compression to see how bad the blow by is?
and if my compression is good then...

but i have a 2.4 engine... so i guess check the air oil separator and my pvc lines?
ok so i took it all apart and it was my air oil seperator so i'm gonna get the parts today or tomarrow and trow it back together thank you guys for pointing me in the right direction
