03 ecotec VS 01 2.4???
Friday, January 16, 2009 8:25 PM
So I just traded my 01 Z24 for an 03 ls sport coupe....but now that I have been reading up more on the ecotec I see a lot of problems with gauges going bad and problems with the fuel system. I read this on other sites and just wondering if these are valid concerns???? My understanding before I had the ecotec was that it was a good powertrain. What are everyones experiences with the 03 ecotec since the people in the know are right here

Its all about the pain...The Jewelry and Ink are just souvinirs

people will argue on here on waht is the best motor for various reasons, but ive driven all three motors 2200, 2.4, 2.2 ecotec and own an eco and a 2200 and hands down the eco is the best platform i have found of all with the best potential, its all jsut a matter of how fat your wallet is and how vast your knowledge is. The ecotec is a really fun and reliable motor.

and the only fuel issue is the one with all cavs and that is fuel pump going bad due to having too low of fuel in your tank too often, i always keep both mine at half tank or more at all times. my 98 and 05 both have original fuel pump and gauges working fine too, the gauges thing is not THAT common of a problem but has cime up and there easy to find and swap out anyways. enjoy your eco!

I've had a 2200 and swapped in a EcoTec so that should tell you which one is more reliable.
I had nothing but problems with the 2200. I've had problems with accessories on the L61 but no problems with the engine itself

For all that I have owned, and still own a 2.4, I would rather have an ecotec. It's a current production motor, so parts will be available for longer, and the aftermarket is TONS better.

Electrical issues (gages, fuel pump and so forth) happen no matter what engine you have.

Having driven a hot 2.4 (GM S/C), and a regular 2.2 eco (in-laws 'balt), the eco is WAY smoother (even compared to a stock 2.4).

Stock for stock, the 2.2 eco and 2.4 TC are within 5 hp of each other on paper, in real life it is a coin toss as to which is faster in stock form.
