The doors consistently freeze shut on my wife's Sunfire. Seems like it's not just around the door but behind the weatherstrip as well. Is there anything I can treat the weatherstrip with to help control the problem? She was late for work this morning because of it and had to climb in the passenger side and throw a shoulder into the driver side door from inside to get it to open.
Wow! I use a trace of silicone grease on the weatherstops on my 'vert. (Wipe a bit on, then smooth it out and work it in, then wipe most off.) That should help but I've never had a rampant freezing problem. Good luck. - Mark
I have used silicone spray for years and it was always worked.

Do you spray the weather strip or the door?
Go to GM and get part number 1#10953014,Silicone Emulsion,This stuff works great,I use it on all the seals on my car..Really good on Sunroof seals,You use it twice in a year,Just wipe it on and leave it as long as you can,You will see it dissaper into the rubber,And what ever is left over just take a cloth and wipe the rest off..
My cav's both do this a lot in the winter. I have found a very easy way to get it to loosen up. Rather than pulling on the door. Push on it. Slam your booty on it and it loosens everything up! haha!
I have used simple crisco spray from the kitchen, and like stated above, pushing in real hard then jerking out seems to loosen things up a bit
98 z24, few upgrades, nitrous on the way!
just dont drive it in the winter......duh.
Go cheap and use armor all or a similar rubber treatment product this does a good job to keep the seals soft and so they will not freeze with moisture in general.Just use a small rag apply it to the rag and wipe on after u wash the car if u can to ensure a clean surface. That's what I do and have never had my doors do that in the 22 yrs I have owned my trk which i bought new.Simple fix.
wipe some motor oil around the seal. cheap, effective. works well. or lithium grease. just wipe thin.
Easy fix you will never had this problem again. Move to a warmer state!!
Couldn't help myself!!

Stick to a silicone grease as GM recommends, or use a product designed for the application. I would NOT recommend using motor oil, as it will cause the seals to swell over time, and then they won't seal at all!
Finding a warmer climate does sound inviting right now though... although I probably wouldn't appreciate the lack of A/C after a few months...

i only use oil during winter months. every other time i condition them i use a water based all season dressing forgot to mention that,.
I've seen seals swell to more than twice their original size from exposure to motor oil, so I would still avoid it regardless of the season.

i used to just jam my fingers in the gapo and the top and pull there and on the handle at the same time.but sometimes pushing it in first makes it much easier
