Well I just purchased a 04 Cavalier Ecotec 5 speed last week and the car currently has 91K and close to 92k. According to the last oil sticker on the windshield it says its due around 92K. Being I just got the car I plan to just do a full tune up on it.
This is what I plan to do:
1.) Change Oil with Mobile 1 Full Syn 5w-30
2.) Install new AC Delco oil filter
3.) Drain old 5 speed fluid and refill with Dexron III
4.) Replace fuel filter with AC Delco
5.) Replace spark plugs with AC Delco (not sure what kind)
6.) Remove stock air filter and install K&N panel filter I got from a friend
7.) Check to make sure spark plug boots are not cracked and if they are replace
I am not sure what kind of AC Delco spark plugs to go with. I went on Advanced Auto's website and they sell:
1.) Iridium's at $6.99 a piece (I think these are the stock plugs)
2.) Double Platinum at $10.99 a piece
I was unable to find the Rapid-fire plugs anywhere? Do they not sell them anymore? Also should I gap the plugs at 0.43?

Go with the Iridium spark plugs. Also you might as well flush the coolant then while you at it.

Thanks I planned to do that as well. I knew I forgot something. So I will dump the dexcool fluid and go with green stuff fluid is that ok? I also will replace the thermostat at same time. Where is the location of the thermostat? Is it on the driver or pass side of motor?

Why do you want to dump the DexCool? I've used it since it was introduced in the mid '90s in many different (GM) vehicles and haven't had any problems with it. It works well in systems that were designed for it (closed, without air), is silicate free, offers good freeze protection and has extended life characteristics. Yes, I've read all the horror stories. But when used as intended in vehicles it was intended for, I've had no trouble.
Forgot to say above that of course you can change to the the green coolant if you like and should have no problem. Even though some of them say they're all compatible (even with Dex), I'd be careful to flush very thoroughly first. (Even though I use Dex, I don't trust it to play well with others.) Good luck. - Mark

stick with dexcool. thermostat could need changed but if its working fine, wouldnt mess with it. check the belt for cracks. check your brakes for sure. you said 5 speed. check the clutch feel. i would replace the fluid in the clutch reservoir. and also flush the brakes fluid.
