I am getting a P0442 DTC, and I replaced the fuel cap with a new non locking one. This is on my 04 Eco. Any thoughts on what it could be?

replaced my gas cap and still getting 440 code....
take out the purge valve in the bach, the little black box with 1 hose going to it. Take it apart and beat the filter around to clean it out, I did that and a few days later the code was gone, havent seen it in 5 months now. Just give it a shot, plus its free.

I just purchased the purge valve up at the engine, for less than $20 I figure i'll try that out and see if that fixes my issue. If not than i'll send the car in and have the system smoked.

I swapped the purge valve out on mine and no luck. I used one i grabbed from the junkyard.
Oh yea, P0442 and P0440 can lick my nut shack.

i had the same problem...deleted it twice, kept coming back, so i just took off the gas cap, and retightened it, and i haven't had another problem...don't think it seems like it'll be that simple for everyone though. i would get it smoked.
sounds like a evap code! just delete it.

It is an evap code, and not everyone likes loosing gas they paid for and polluting the air they breathe.
Yeah, I do delete it, and it comes back. I have to fix it so I can get the car through inspection. They will fail it for the check engine light, and the system has to be ready.

Honestly you can "shotgun" the repair and just start throwing parts at it or you can have the system smoke tested.
Ha I found a way to get it to pass.i live in Missouri and your allowed one to be not ready. So I cleared the code drove it gor couple of days to get the computer to reset...plugged in the scanner everthing was raedy exept for the evap test ran it to the emissions test and it passed. had to keep car full of gas so computer would not run this test until it gets to 3/4 full or 1/4 full

just trying a coupe in expensive parts, if the issue remains then I go ahead and have it smoke tested.

I had that code on my old Z...turned out to be the wiring harness for mine (no inspection, so I ignored it for 18 months. I had it fixed when I had the car in for something else).
Make sure all the wiring associated with that system is in good condition as well while you're fiddling with it.
(And for the losing gas: It's miniscule, so meh, it does not affect performance, MPG or how the engine runs at all.)
But you do have to have it fixed for you poor folks in inspection states (Protip: Find a buddy w/ HPTuners and remove the functionality
)

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.
that is a stupid code.
had it on my cav once. I tried a locking gas cap, got the code, switched back to the stock cap and hasnt been a issue.
Same with a malibu we had in the family. code would come up from time to time. i just cleared it.
good luck
