i searched and noticed nobody else had this problem but my foglights will work most of the time, but every now and again they just won't turn on for some reason, it seems to do this when its colder out but not always. any suggestions would be very helpful
check the wires, could be loose, bulbs could be going..chould be the relay..
Check the switch. On my Z24, the switch usually needs a couple of taps to get the lights to come on. It's as though there's a bad connection in the switch itself. The only other problem I have with my fogs is that I keep blowing light bulbs. I was buying Sylvania Silverstars for it, but after spending $160 in one year, I said forget it and went back to the cheaper bulbs which last maybe a little longer, but they still blow out.
Also, I know my car is VERY succeptible to corroding wires. I've had my entire front harness patched by GM, and even now I'm still finding wires are snapping. You might have a wire somewhere that might be on it's way out.

I don't think its the bulbs and would the switch be bad even if it still lights up? The little dot in the center of the rocker switch doesn't come on but everything else lights up. In anycase thanks for the suggestions when it warms up ill have to tear it apart again
if the little dot in the center of the rocker doesnt light up chances are its bad, by the rest of the lights still working do you mean your dash lights?..
what you can try is go to the junk yard get a few of switches.. keep the wiring in first, swap just the switch, that could be the issue.. if not.. try a whole new harness under the dash pad..those are the only ideas I have at the momment..
the rest of the lights on the fog light switch itself work and light up correctly except whenever i hit the switch they don't turn on and neither does the little dot. I went to a u pull it yard yesterday and they don't have anything 02+ but i looked on the older model sunfires and of course not a single sunfire/cavalier had foglights in the hole place so ill have to look at another yard unfortunately
I was at the u-pull it yard today and I actually thought of this thread, i found a fog switch , but its for a cavalier....
I couldnt remember if you had mentioned the kind of car it was for or not but i grabbed it anyway..
if the cavalier switch is the same type as the sunfire (ill take and post the pic up later) its all yours if it'll help .. just pay the shipping.. its a small peice I cant imagin it being more then a few dollers.. so about the same as getting it from a yard.. your call.
i actually have a sunfire i have no idea if there different or not i definitly appreciate the thought tho, if you could post up a pic thatd be great
sorry for the crappy pics but hopefully the siwtch helps ya out..
pic of the rocker switch installed
pic of spare rocker switch from the side (circut board side) view
its possible the reason yours is not working or on the blink due to the circut , when I installed fogs on my car (they didnt come on it) I used a led toggle swtich, a few weeks ago I replaced the bezel, swapped out the dimmer switch for the larger panel with a stock fog light switch I misswired the switch and blew the circut, it blew out like a fuse does...
that very well could be it and that switch wouldnt work for me unfortuantly so when you say blew out the circuit where would i find this or do you mean the relay?
not a relay.. if you look at the (circutboard) side veiw of the rocker swtich in pic two thats what blew, the silver line between the beeds of solder poped like a normal fuse...
thats werid that it would do that, ill have to check that

I know why mine did it..stock fogs were not on my car originally, i put them on a few months ago and finnally got around to doing a little rewireing so i can use the stock switch and I rewired the witch wrong at first..lol..thankfully i grabbed two the first time i had seen them.
as to why or if yours has done the same.. who knows.. but its possible..when mine went it showed the same sypmtoms as you listed so at the least it never hurts to check.. good luck on it....
if ya put up a pic of what yours looks like next time im at the yard ill keep an eye out for one for ya..
here ya go i couldn't get it off to get a pictures of the back how did you take yours off?
on cavaliers the bezel pulls out, from there the switch pops out the backside...(sorry it took me a few days to get back to ya..)
I want to say it looks similar, the only difference looks like it may be the rocker switch itself which you can probably (but not sure) pop the gray rocker off and swap it with the black one on the rocker i posted above.. just a thought not sure it will work..
its all good and there is a size diffeerence between the two and ill just have to pull harder to get it out i didn't want to break it although at this point it really doesnt matter lol
ok i finally found a switch and it also didn't work but now i heard a clicking sound up front, so im thinking the relay is bad?
if thats the case are all 95-05 cav's and sunfire's foglight relay the same? and i know the relay box is on the front rad support, but i only have one little black box and i don't think thats it so.......... if somebody could take a pic of the relay box that would be awesome
thanks
