cruise control up and quit...

one day it just stopped working... checked all connections, everything seems fine... i dont think it is the switch either... in hptuners the cruise control button is greyed out like i dont have that option any more.

can the cruise modules just go bad and act like they up and left the room on ya?

My cruise control stopped working in the fall. It slowly began to die, sometimes it would work then it just stopped over winter. I would try every week or so to see if it would work again then just a few weeks ao it started working, haven't had a problem since. No clue why but hopefully your situation does the same.

mine is starting to do that... it works sometimes and then it doesnt. I think the connections are loose or getting old. Sometimes im crusing and a light gush of wind blows my car a little.. cruise control stops. I think i need a new CC unit. What ya all think?

i have seen many cars with a bad CC SWITCH... my last car would cruise just fine all day long... but as soon as you used the turn signal... cruise turned off.... and you had to fiddle with the turn signal lever to get cruise back on. module was fine... but switch/wires were bad.

that is not the case with my car now.... it is either all or nothing.... it either works great all day.... or it doesnt work at all. but right now it has been "not at all" for like 2 months. so i think it is dead.

Thats excatly whats happening with mine. Drives me nuts. So if i went to a junkyard and pulled out the switch from a newer cav, say 03-05 ones, will it still work with my 02? Im pretty sure Cav and Sunfire ones from 96-05 all will work. Correct me if im wrong?

pretty sure it will work... but i dont think it is a simple 5 minute job.... many cars require taking apart the entire steering coulmn... i know some people have said it is easier to replace the entire column than just the switch...
but not sure on a cavy... never messed with it...

you could always try on the scrap car... if it is a pain to get out... it will be a pain to put in too...

Have you checked the switches on the brake and clutch pedals? I had one come loose once and the cruise wouldnt work.

the switch is a 5 minute job also. pull the upper and lower column covers off. then theres 2 7 mm screws holding them on. you need a wrench for one. the other you can use a wratchet. and im also certian that the cruise switch is the same from 95-05 also.
