code 440 light comes on for couple days goes off for couple days without anychanges being made not even gas cap on or off during this time someone help before I park the J and but a SS Cobalt
Doesn't mean it still isn't the gas cap. Another thing, check the purge valve underneath, take it apart and clean the filter inside it. That took care of mine when it came on.

P0440 is a hard CEL to fix, it could be almost anything in the emissions system. My 96 cav always threw that code and i never worried about it.
