Yup it was Number 3 cyl. bearing....engine swap coming.
Got a Japanese 2.4. it has the EGR valve on it, bnut my 99 GT has no EGR valve.... should I change the intakes as well?
Can I leave the EGR valve on? all the plumbing is there just no electrical connection to the ECM
The fuel rail also has an electrical connection that GT doesn't have, it goes between the rail and the alternator, I think it's just a quick disconnect,should you need to replace the alternator
is there any other 'unpleasantries' that may be accompaning this change?

so after i start a new thread I guess I'll have to keep people updated with my progress.
Well there appears to be some differences already.
1) an EGR valve, and associated plumbing from throttle-body engine block.
2)wire harness from injectors to alternator to main electrical harness.
3) exhaust manifold bolt pattern
Apparently the Japanese have higher regs. for emmissions, since all 2.4 have EGR's..... North American 2.4 lost there EGR valves in 99-01 when the bore and stroke changed
Does anybody know if the ECU in a 99 Sunfire GT can support a 2.4 with EGR or will it have to be flashed ? can the EGR be left unplugged or should I change the intakes around.
I'm concerned with the intakes, could the 99 North american 2.4 have a different throttlebody because of the bore/stroke change than the Japanese 2.4 with different bore/stroke ?
I know the displacement is the same but the H.P. is also different....

When are you going to understand it's the same engine and it's BUILT IN THE USA. There was no change.
The egr means you have a 99- engine.
The bore/stroke NEVER changed in the 2.4.
