changing coolant

Hi guys, I went to change the coolant on my 03 cavalier and nothing drained. I twisted the drain plug at the bottom right hand corner of the radiator so that it was open and nothing came out. I also took the cap off the container up top while the plug was open and still nothing came out. After this, I drove around the block so that the thermostat opened and still nothing cam out. Am I doing something wrong or could something be blocking the drain hole? Thanks for the help.

sounds like a clogged petcock. stick a small screwdriver in the hole. or disconnect the bottom radiator hose.

I tried sticking something in the hole to see if it was clogged but that didn't seem to do anything. If I disconnect the bottom hose can I just drain it that way?

yes you can. Many times dirt and grime gets in the petcock and will not let anything out. Popping off the hose, basically does the same thing as a petcock only in an uncontrolled manner.
