Quick LD9 rebuild questions..
Thursday, April 16, 2009 7:32 PM
i just finished rebuilding my 2.4 about 5 minutes ago and I was looking for some advise with last minute things to check before putting it in the car again.

1) Should i put oil before i drop it in to check for leaks? or will it even matter if the oil hasn't been pumped around?
2) Assuming all the bearings are in right, the timing is right and the torque specs were followed it should be good right?
3) Also, i don't remember the chain being so tight, the tensioner shoe is almost all the way against the side of the housing.
4) how many inches long is the chain supposed to be? i measured mine right before i put it on and it was 24" folded in half. So? 48" plus the two links that are turned sideways because it was folded in half...

Finally, i would just like to thank these forums for helping me along the way, ive asked 100 dumb questions but now i know how to build an engine... neat.

I assumed you use lube on the bearings during install? If so when you get the motor in the car leave the IDI harness disconnected, and take out the fuel pump relay. Turn the motor over to allow it to build up oil pressure. If you do not have a oil pressure gauge connected to the car you can remove the oil pressure sending unit to see when oil starts coming out as a indication.

Did you turn the motor (crank) by hand once the timing chain was installed?
