hey guys 2 questions.

1. Do I need to take anything off other then the Alternator to get the water pump off?

2. My car over heated really bad yesterday due to the water pump completely not working, is it possible that the lack of water would cause a knock? I've overheated a few times before but it seemed to be just a pin hole leak in the bottom raidator hose. and I've noticed the knock started occuring around the same time as the overheating problem became more of an issue.
