I'm doing some work on a friends '99 2.2L Cav. - plugs and wires. Owners manual calls for plug # AC 41-928, Haynes calls for AC 41-928 or equivalent and thats what I got. BUT, when I was looking up parts at Autozone and a couple of local places, their online catalog called for 41-948. Of course, if in doubt, always go with the owners manual, but this just seems a bit odd. When I pulled the old plugs, I found 41-948 installed and the marking on them looked like they may be factory installed plugs. The label was different than what was on the new plugs, it read AC41-948 as well as it had another number, possibly another part number.
My friend never had her plugs changed and she bought the car as a previous rental with 25k miles on it. I don't know how much maintenance rental companies do on their vehicles, but I doubt that they would have had plugs changed at under 25k miles.
Comparing the plugs side by side (wish I would have taken a picture), from the base at the end of the threads (the end farthest inside the engine) is a bit longer on the 41-928 plugs by maybe 1/4" or so which causes the electrodes to sit farther inside the engine. Would this additional length make any difference in anything? I've driven it since and it seems to run fine.
Thanks!!!
