I was driving down the road today, and for no reason at all, my sunroof just blew up. Nothing hit it or anything, it was the craziest thing i had ever seen. When it blew up, i stopped and looked at it, from what i could tell, there was no impact point where something might have hit it. The only thing i can come up with is i live im Mississippi, and the temp today is in the 90's and i had the A/C on pretty high. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Can i get a new one from the dealership, or do i have to go to a glass place?

It might have been spontaneous breakage...

Sometimes if tempered glass get a little chip in the side.... eventually over time..... it will hit its stress point and just go boom..... and being a sunroof prob just sped up the process...

Tempered glass is fun that way.. it doesnt just crack or break in half.... its either one peice or a billion little pieces if it breaks..

I work in a glass fabrication plant....

One of the guys at work had this happen in his impala on the highway.

He was driving to work and it just exploded. Crazy @!#$.

Only the second time I heard of it, and it was a GM both times.

Heat will have next to no impact (no pun intended) on the glass breaking, something obviously contacted the side of the tempered glass for it to break.

It did have a very small chip in it, i guess it just couldnt handle it anymore. Oh well, live and learn. Just out of curiosity, i found a Z24, 00-02 with a blown motor in the junkyard, it had a sunroof, do u think it would fit? Im going to measure mine today, and head the the junkyard in the next couple of days. The Z also had a B & M short shifter in it, The shifter should work in my 03, same trans, right?

Had this happen to me on the highway just the other day. Nobody I know has ever heard of this happening. Guess it was just one of those freak accidents. When I looked at it in the morning it looked like it had broke in the middle.
