'97 Cavalier with '96 Grand am engine swap
Tuesday, June 16, 2009 7:19 PM
So this is the back story. I have been driving a 1996 Grand Am for the past 8 Months. In mid-january i had a mishap with railroad tracks and had to replace the transmission, oil pan, oil pump, and now have to replace the cracked radiator. Their are numerous problems with the Grand Am, such as leaking floors when it rains and hard vibrations (both since i bought it), and i might have to purchase a new power steering pump. I know for a fact that the engine (3100 SFI V6) is fine. I am buying a 1997 Cavalier Z24 from my aunt for $200 and everything is fine except the engine (2.4 liter Twin cam l4) has a spun rod. I've seen online where a person swapped their '97 Cavalier engine with a '96 Grand Am V6 so i'm pretty sure it's possible to do, but what i ask is this: Would is be cheaper to repair the Cavalier's engine, or to get it swapped with the Grand Am engine at a repair shop.

Any help is greatly needed. Thank you
