Blower removal and install.
Wednesday, June 17, 2009 9:44 AM
My son has a 2003 Cavalier that needs a blower replacement. It sounds like the blower wheel is hitting something and it does sit tight aginst one side of the mount.
I have read where the motor is held on by some kind of heat fasteners? that have to be pried off for removal as there are no screws or bolts. How does the blower motor reattach after removal? Can screws be used? Any help would be appreciated as well as any pics of the removal process.
Thanks in advance.

there should be screws on it.

Negative on the screws Mike. That would just be too easy. To me they looked like rivets of some kind, I changed out a rear window motor that was supposed to have screws, SUPRISE... rivets. Ihad to drill these out. Autozone part no. BM1003 is what this blower motor looks like. Delphi motor.
My son picked up a motor from Advance Auto and it did not look like the Delphi one.

Yes, Just checked both of my cavaliers. All screwed in.

Are you looking at the correct spot? On the passenger side under the glove box?

some of them don't use screws. i was looking for blower resistors at the junkyard and came across one that used rivets as he describes. i ended up just ripping it apart to get the resistor out of it. id imagine you could just put screws in it to put it back together though.

7 mm screw... rivets would be hard to use under the dash bored. if you need a blower motor i have one available from and 04 cavalier. PM for it

Yes, If it is riveted, Then you could easily put screws in it because of the way it mounts.

I still have yet to see a riveted one tho, Do you have any pics?

I'll try to take a picture when I get home this afternoon. If they are rivets or some kind of plastic fasteners, I thought I would drill them out with a right angle dril and use screws to reinstall.

Thats how mine is too with those rivets. I guess you will have to be careful and drill them and use screws after that.

I used a right angle dril and a 1/4 inch bit as well as a razor knife to break up the exposed areas. Then a little prying with a screw driver and the motor came out.
The motor had a bunch of leaves in it, but was cleaned and reinstalled with screws that went into the extended pieces next to the rivet area.
There is still a ticking sound only when in recirculate mode. This occurs most of the time but not always. With the motor out I couldn't see anything it was hitting,
and it made this noise with the motor out. So it is not motor related. Possibly an actuator for a blender door perhaps. The noise is in this area, but can't see what could be causing it.

you can see the motor from the top if you remove the window cowell
