OK guy's got a question for everybody, just recently i pulled my 2.4 out and did a over haul on it cause the #3 rod bearing went south. So i put it all back together filled all fluids up,and started it up and everything was fine. Then a few days later i jacked up the rear to replace the back two tires and it sat a few days jacked up.So after i put the new tires on and let her down it started to leak oil from either the oil pan or rear main,it's hard to tell where it's coming from, but I'm leaning towards the oil pan.So my question is I'm running Mobil 1 full synthetic oil and was wondering if the synthetic was part of the problem? All the seals are brand new and i torqued everything down to spec,so looking for opinion's if the oil is part of the problem with new seals.I also think since i haven't driven the car a lot since the rebuild, it might have something to do with it to,maybe it needs to be broken in,but that's just and idea I'm tossing around. Thanks.
Well scratch what i said in the last post.Just got looking at the oil leak, put the car on ramps and let her run.I took off the dust shield between the motor and tranny, and low and behold i layed there and watched the rear main seal spin and spin, watching it move in and out.Now i know why it started to leak days after everything seemed fine, that stupid oil seal broke lose and spun.Any body got any ideas if this seal well expand enough to seal and stop spinning? How big of a pain is it to take the tranny out to replace this seal? pulling the motor and tranny was simple no problems doing that, but it looks pretty tight in there to pull just the tranny. So any body got any useful tips that would help me out pulling the trans? thanks for any help.
