Hi
I went and replaced my Washer Reservoior today(didn't know the bumper would be coming off)
Anyways, I can't figure out how this rubber boot goes back into the air box,I have tried to even removed the boot from the bolt to stick into the air box but it's glued onto the Washer Reservoir bolt it looks.
I will let the pictures show what I mean
I hope someone can lend me a hand on this,Car is almost ready to get back together
Thanks
I could be wrong but it looks like the rubber bushing is just on the bolt(?) see if the rubber bushing removes from that, then replace the rubber bushing into the hole that it pulled from then replace the the hole part pushing the bushing back in place..
uh, yeaaaah.. that makes sense..i think.lol.
Still no luck, that bushing/Gromet is not going anywhere
Im really thinking i have to buy a complete one with the airbox attacted or drill that hole bigger to where in snaps into place and just use some zip ties.
Has anyone ever had a problem like this before
hey man why dont you buy a ebay air intake or an expensive air intake and throw that piece of crap away.
I highly doubt it is glued on. Just take a pair of pliers, gently grip it and gently rotate side to side. You'll feel a little tearing, which is the rubber bond to the metal stud giving way, once that happens slide it off of the stud and pop it back in the hole. It is simply a pin that holds up the filter unit at that point. You're fine with what you have, just be a tad more aggressive at removing the grommet.
Good Luck

Don't worry about that part. It's just the air bong. From what I heard in the past, a ll it does is makes the car a little more quieter and restricts the air flow. Your engine will breathe a little better without it. Correct me if I'm wrong....

In my years (sadly it's been WAY too many) of working on cars of various makes, rarely does a manufacturer design, build, and install parts for no good reason. It violates the idea of putting out a low cost offering and maximizing their profit.
This "air bong" is sucking the cooler air as it hits the front of the car and directing it into the air cleaner instead of the air cleaner sucking up the hot engine compartment air that has passed through the radiator.
My advice? ........ put it back on.
Rarely does carelessly tossing "extra" parts aside really improve one's car unless you are actually creating a performance machine using quality factory or after market parts and you know what you are doing. Not too unlike doing a repair and ending up with 3 extra bolts and just say "oh well, guess I don't need these"! Yes, you do need those bolts, go find out what and where they were left off of.

leave it off... In my 6 years of working on J's its not necessary. Research has also proven that the difference between in engine compartment air induction and external air induction doesn't yeild any noticable difference until forced induction is applied, or you stupidly place your air intake over the exhaust manifold.

Dave is wrong on this one.... the rest are correct...
Hell.... my car doesn't have one single piece of the stock air intake before the TB anymore...
Dont worry about the mount spot.... there are more than enough bolt pointt to hold your reservoir in there without the intake res in there.... I would know.... mine went in the dumpster when I replaced my transmission..
The only reason GM put it there was to make the engine more quiet.... there was really no "good" reason for it..... it was just a marketing thing..... people tend to think that the less they hear from the engine bay the better the engine is.... people are stupid and GM knows this.... thats why they did it.... there really is no functional reason other than that for it being there..
As for the cool air induction thing.... refer to the guy that posted above me..
I'm not sure "wrong" is the proper term here. I don't call modifications "wrong" so keeping a car as designed isn't wrong.
I'm not a modification guy and keep my cars as built at the factory. I've been in the industry off and on since the early 70's, dealers as well as independent shops. I am not a fan of removing itemsand judging them to be unneeded, people MUCH smarter than I put them there and most likely for good reason.
Do as you wish and what makes you comfortable. Me? I'd put it back on....but I guess that would be "wrong"
Good Luck.
